Restrict all non-corporation channels to region-wide only. This would go a long way to bringing back the now-dead trader profession.
Removing the superhighways would be the 100% best thing to go hand-in-hand with this.

Errr, what about the chat channels? That would really kill EVE for me.

Private chat channels remain accessible in any region but with a maximum capacity of 15 people.

Currently the trade channel is there (imo) to make up for the fact that the market isn't working properly (can't put any item you want on there.
So with your suggestion somebody would have to:
a) Sit on trade channel for ??? amount of time wtb, wtb. in region x
b) Move to region y , wtb, wtb, for ??? time again.
c) Repeat for as many as there are empire regions?
That would essentially force all trade channel action to a single semi-agreed upon region and make eve a smaller place. Cause HUGE amounts of lag as people moved into this 'common' region.
Personally I disagree that trade is 'dead' in eve. I believe that with any type of sales. MArketing is required. What do the people want? How much are they willing to spend? Can I be competitive with that market? If not then what market is out there that I can compete on?

The highways SHOULD be removed, omfg they are the worst thing for this game.

Considering serious traders make more off NPC trade goods than they could off modules, I don't see why traders don't all LOVE the highways...
