Well, as a n00b, I knew I wouldn't last long in Low-Sec. I jumped in, thought I'd just kinda "get the feel" of it.
First Starbase I jumped to...red blinking guy with a skull...welp, time to leave. Jumped to an Asteroid Field...and he followed me. Again. And Again. Finally Jumped back to High-Sec. Whew.
Went BACK to the same Sector a little later. Approached another base. Different player....who had a Warp Disruptor.
It was literally PEW PEW PEW DEAD. I didn't even get ONE shot in.
He then chats: gf
Good Fight? More like Good Slaughter.
Anyway, the PvP cherry has been popped. Feels strangely...liberating.
And I AM keeping a spreadsheet of everyone who kills me as a n00b. I will get my vengeance! (after I've skilled up) |

In Eve, gf actually translates as "get fcked," just want to clear up any confusion on that point.
Aurix Kane wrote:And I AM keeping a spreadsheet of everyone who kills me as a n00b. I will get my vengeance! (after I've skilled up) Good luck with that. Odds are, after you've been around the block a few times you won't care in particular about who killed you, nor whom specifically you've killed. |

Snipped out a killboard link.
OP, if you want to get more into PvP, I strongly recommend either joining a PvP corp or getting in touch with some people willing to enlighten you to the way of the pew-pew. You may also want to look up some blogs or guides on how to survive, and more importantly, defeat people.
Also, ,"gf" is just a customary courtesy. In your case it was probably an acknowledgement of "you tried", which at least in my opinion, is better than saying nothing (implying you're not worth the effort of typing two letters). I have found that eve is what you make of it. Some people build, some people trade, some people scam, some people steal, some shoot red crosses all day, some people pew pew, and some few help and enable others to build and pew pew.
There are, for instance, players that have generally never wronged another player in game. Some of them are extremely successful i.e. Chribba. |

Mining will not really get you anywhere. The ISK is minimal, you learn no PvP habits, and you just get more worried about losing ships because they're more expensive.
Follow the OP's example. Fit up a cheap frig and mess around in low and explode. Trust me on this. It was just over 13 months ago I took my first steps out of highsec into a FW corp and tried my hand at PvPing.
I died 42 times before getting my first kill, solo - it was the biggest adrenalin rush I ever had.
I am now somewhere approaching my 350th kill, and really it's only the last 7 months have I been doing ok at PvP. I still derp, but you know what, I have a great laugh doing it with my friends in the alliance. And PvPing with them has kept us together as a coup for a year, which is more than I ever found from highsecers. |

Put mind to that EVE is just video game and your losses wont matter at all. Unless you lost billion ISK ship, it truly does not matter. In other video games you die thousands of times. In EVE you are capsuleer, you can pilot your ship into star after too much liquor at your cousins birthday party and still never die permanently.
More interesting question is why so many people think dying in EVE in PvP is such big deal. Specially among new players. It is something very different from other mmo's I have played. |

I sense that in a few years, you will be one of the good pvp pilots in EVE, because you got the right attitude. Get in touch with EVE-uni and then later red vs blue. Thats a good way to get into pvp fast without taking too many losses I also noted the first guy who killed me. Unfortunately I never got to kill him before he stopped playing, but even years after, I could feel the anger and urge for revenge when I saw him in local
About the GF thing... A lot of people in low sec write it out of courtesy. It might not have been to provoke you at all, even though I understand why it would feel that way. |

Goooood! Let the anger flow through you!
On a more serious note, for you OP, the hard part is over. Once you lose a ship and realise its really not that bad, it gets easier and easier to the point where its just part and parcel of the game. As it should be!

Last time I got ganked in low sec (because I wasn't paying attention) my Tengu got ganked by a group of 6. I really don't get how anyone could be proud of such a kill tbh :P. Despite what you may have heard there's only one rule of EVE:

Rule 2 of Eve PvP - never fight fair because no one else will.
Dont like it, stay out of lowsec. Infact if your mining in lowsec, then your either bait or stupid. The only real pure PvP is solo one on one, but ya never know what the other dude might have / do.
But saying you wouldn't get a on nice shiny kill because the fights unfair is just naive.
Its all one big game where you ultimately have to be smarter than the other person your fighting. And if your not smarter, then just use numbers.
Applying Highsec or Nullsec mentality to lowsec is just... a bit silly. |

That adrenaline rush you had when you survived your first brush with death and managed to escape is what brought you back... Enjoy it, learn from others, plenty of good advice in other posts on who can help you learn PvP. You are lucky It took a wardec after years of missioning and mining for me to first feel that rush and I never looked back. I owe a lot to the first guy who killed me in genuine PvP

That's the spirit. You do have all your losses recorded on your character though. Also, as long as you're on a gate to hsec or a station, you're virtually invincible. |
