What is the formula to compare two weapons?
[ Damage Modifier / ROF ] basically, but where should the Trackingspeed factor be put?

Edited by: Bashier Tarr on 15/09/2003 22:12:02 It's MUCH more complicated than that. Tracking speed works on angular velocity mechanics, and calculating accuracy would require:
1) Tracking speed of the weapon 2) Distance from the target 3) Movement vector of the target 4) Your movement vector
Factoring that into the formula would be quite a task, I can do iy, but I think it's a bit beyond the scope of a weapons analysis formula.
In any case, here's a simplified version which is a specific case which happens when the shooter is stationary and the target is orbiting at a given distance:
Accuracy (%) (Trackingspeed/(SPEED/DISTANCE)) * 100
So, if your weapon has a tracking speed of 0,03, and your target is orbiting you at a distance of 10000 meters and a speed of 400 meters/second, it comes out to:
Accuracy (%) (0,03 / (400/10000)) * 100 0,03 / 0,04 * 100 75% chance to hit (before distance modifiers and falloff).
Explaining more would probably be a lesson in angular velocity and vectorial movements

if the tracking speed was 0.01 would it be 14%??? -Eli

And possibly a waste of time as I doubt that the game uses anything more than an abstraction of the effects of relative velocity, target cross section, etc.

What about optimum range? like some wepons (projectile) have a optimum range of say 7km but have a max range of around 20-30km or so, does this mean that it will hit better at 20k than 7km despite 7km being the optimum range? or is there also another factor in the percenage for that?
