Edited by: Johnny Twoshoe on 09/04/2006 20:33:45 I mirror HippoKing in that EVE is my first MMO. It also happens to be my only MMO.
Before EVE I played Shattered Galaxy quite frequently, along with Tribes 2 (Primarily Construction), Tribes 1 (Mostly Meltdown and TRpg), and plenty of Jedi Academy. Post-EVE, this masterpiece from CCP is pretty much all I play.
That one month I was grounded was painful. But atleast I got Gallente Cruiser 5 done in that time, and I also got plenty of CS:S playtime in that month.
Yes, I'm addicted. I've gotten three of my friends to play, only two of which started paying (Slurpy 1337 and B Jared if you're at all curious.) More meat for the grinder... ~~~

I was playing Day Of Defeat on a rather proffesional plan..
Was clanleader of a medium sized clan [LW] (*hint* the dumb letters in my name *hint*) and still am today, but eve made me step down, and play for fun only, no tournaments/pcw's/cw's or anything likely.
I've often thought about going back to do what i did before, less addicting, and i can log off easily whenever i want, without any consequenses, but im so damn addicted.. and even more addicted to the community(the forums).

I played every fps there is out there, and I have an insane computer for it to. I picked up EVE back in early early 2004 after Gamespy Arcade was giving out free trials. Been playing since then. Got WoW this past Christmas and all I can say is that I'm glad I found EVE before that or I would probably have the mindset that all mmo's suck.

I played that for a while when I was working in a computer shop during my year out. It's ok, waaay more repetative than EvE, but has the highest population of smack talking little turds I've ever had to face... lets see, started with a pingpong game on a black and white TV that took 10 minutes to start up, the to a philips p2000, some sort of trading game. then a commodore c64, loadrunner, mission impossible, boulderdash, loads of others .. my first pc, a 286 with an amazing 20mb harddrive, played lemmings, gods, kingsquest, larry :). then a 486.. wolfenstein, then a pentium, quake, red alert . more new hardware allowed age of empires, commando's, tomb raider series. now on a pIV, radeon x850, played far cry, battlefield, loads of CS, halflife 1 and 2, neverwinter nights, comand and conquer generals and zero hour (awsome!), the homeworld series (all three) and of course ...
eve online :)
now, you were saying you were an addict ?

After awhile I started buying games and not even playing them, 150+ xbox games 100+ PS2. then it went to Rare console buying...(White PS2 - Green/White xbox)
I decided to find a MMORPG that would stop my conpulsive buying spree. then I found Eve on the shelf in my local game shop for ú19.99. All game and console buying stopped....
Replaced with now...?
28inch LCD screen, Alienware PC helped with a Mobile internet Laptop - Designated games room in house. 52 inch sony Projection screen for War and illustration. O yea, and a very Flat Arse..

I tried out Guild Wars during downtime yesterday.
I turned Guild Wars off again about 5 minutes later, disguisted with:
(a) Trade Spam (b) "1337 spk" (c) Random people swarming you with trades and whispering "You take Axe, 10,000 gold, yes please" (d) Inability to actually get a party invite because I foolishly said in local "I havent played for 4 months". (e) Teenagers and their female toons, dancing about in the snow in their underwear. (f) The sheer nauseating stuff the aforementioned teenagers were saying to each outer. Get a room ffs, or preferably, become an emo and overdose. (g) Idiots who dont know what a Mesmer can do. (GW's equivalent of a Blackbird, except they do insane damage as well as locking an enemy down) (h) Cookie cuter parties all over. (i) Beggars. (j) I remembered death incurred no loss, except from a small ammount of wasted time. (k) EVE came back online.

I do have hobbies too (floorball, volleyball, football, motorcycling...), so I'm not calling myself as addict. I can forget to train skills but I like to maximise training. You know after 3 years playing you dont want wake up middle of night to set new skill... did it once and it was enought:P Rest of time I just play so long that skill completes:P

Before Eve i've played the best RTS that is on the market: STARCRAFT:BRooDwar.
If my connection wasn't that laggy i'd still play that game.Best game in my opinion (no offense guys). Starcraft can take a really long time to learn but once u are there it's very hard to stop.
Also it's good for people who don't want to spend too much time on playing. A match length is between 10-20 min. Offcourse on the other hand if u want to improve, u must play a lot.
But second comes Eve.Although it comes second, the community in Eve is so much better than in Starcraft. I'm 24 years old but in Starcraft the players are between 15-21 years old. Eve community is better from this point of view. Many more topics to discuss with eve players. Also better jokes :) (I just love omgrawr.net )

Now I play because I'm away from home for an extended period of time because of business. At least my wife trusts I'll never cheat on her. I'm too busy playing EVE!

Lots of RTS games.
StarCraft C&C Diablo 2, pindleBOTs for teh win!
Star Wars Galaxies. I played it when it _WAS_ like Star Wars! (SOE and LA should be removed from production and development of online and standard game titles.)
Pic1
Pic2
Pic3
City of Heroes! Had played since launch. Fun game and LOTS of instant action.
Guildwars. Fun game and nice to play for an hour or two every month or so. ;)
I've tried:
Lineage 2, not beyond trial. (thought it was MUCH better then WoW)
WoW, not above lvl 17 because I felt my inteligence slipping away. (see previous comment)
Anarchy Online, the noob island looks great although had a hard time maintaining intrest.
EQ2 for about 5-6 weeks and before SOE showed their true colors. I will never play another SOE game!

Alot of the current hardcore eve players used to be homeworld fanatics. Like that game did something to them resulting in them being stuck in a virtual world forever. Spooky.

I'm like a few others here, this is my first MMO. What I did before EVE was play FPS's, lots of them... probably a little of all of them at some point. :)
I downloaded the trial client from fileplanet about three weeks ago and thought, "Great, another cheesy mmorpg..." (thinking of the dancing wookies from the SWG commercial) Wrong! I've been playing non-stop since I started.
It's real simple, my life consists now of work, eve, sleep, work, eve, sleep.....

Got bored of SWG in a year and hooked up on EvE. Played Guild Wars at the same time with EvE for a bit, but community there is below average to say the least.
EVE is by far more complex, more challenging and more addictive than any other MMO out there I think.

Ah, the wonders of getting your fiancee to play with you. ^_^
I seem to remember.. before EVE... there was this "thing". I think they called it "outdoors". I think it's a myth.
Outdoors, i get dragged out there somedays its horrible .
Out... doors.... o.O
Oh you mean that thing thats related to the other absolute nightmare called "work", god I was in eve therapy for 5 weeks from that one (holiday) damn thing nearly wrecked my life.
Before times, normal single player games like c&c (all versions) and gf. __________________________________________

EvE is my first and only MMORPG.
Stuck my nose into an EQ trial for 5 minutes only - "shudders" - played a lot of fps - also far cry online - died a lot and very quickly in CS.
Love EvE especially the community - cant see myself leaving - even tho ive slowed down my playing a lot.
