A common misconception about tape worms is that placing food near your open mouth will tempt it to crawl out. This is not possible because tapeworms are parasites which do not have any senses, and therefore cannot GÇÿknowGÇÖ that there is food nearby. Furthermore, the tapeworm resides in the intestines, with no way of accessing your esophagus or your mouth. The head of a tapeworm is not what most people would imagine. Tapeworms do not have mouths or tongues; but rather a head called a scolex, which has suckers or hooks on it, allowing for attachment to the wall of the intestine. Science for the win. Tapeworms are very very simple organisms and not able to "exit" a host to seek other forms of food.
