Ever since RMR was deployed, I have been having an intermittent problem with PC re-booting while in the middle of a fire fight.
Doesn't happen at any other time - just when it gets a bit busy.
I am able to run other new games well, without this issue occuring.
Any ideas?

sounds to me like your power unit is failing and not suppling the critical voltages to your graphics card - its my best guess but when i had random reboots a new psu solved all my problems ( you need at least a 450watt psu these days)

Sounds even more like a heat problem. You havn't given any machine specs so it's most likely NOT the PSU, since we have no idea if you're running just a measly 9600XT or a X1900XT with Crossfire and 60 harddrives to boot...
I'd guess it's a heat issue, since EVE works incredibly hard during battles, and puts a lot of load onto the CPU. When your machine reboots, enter the BIOS (Del button usually), and check the heat of your CPU (should be under a section called PC HEALTH or something).

I don't believe its a heat problem - I have the warning set to come on in case of over heating.
Possible a PSU might fix it - although I don't have any trouble with half life 2!!!
I have a 6600GT and a 350w PSU, 512mb RAM and 3 case fans!!!!

Edited by: Recnac on 14/04/2006 21:42:22 I would defo upgrade that psu, im pretty sure 350w is a bit on the low side these days.

I currently have this issue occuring as well. I upgraded my no name 350-Watt PS to an Antec 500-Watt PS, unfortunately it still occurs when large battles are ensueing. Following Hardware:
ASUS A7M266 motherboard AMD 2200+ 1 GB RAM Single 40 GB HardDrive DVD-ROM
The kicker to this is that I've tried multiple times to fill out a petition for it but receive a PHP error every time. I even resorted to emailing support but haven't received a reply in two weeks. Great game just questionable support channels. "Light a fire for a man, keep him warm for a night. The the man on fire and keep him warm for a lifetime!" |

I'm getting reboot problems also. I've tried everything i can think of to fix it, including installing windows all over again.
I've not yet had the heat of battle reboot since i noticed i get rebooted if i look at character info a few times.
I may get away with looking at a few peoples info but not all.

The problems you guys are describing are most likely to do with audio. I had a similar problem with my PC rebooting itself. There are probably several scenarios where it can happen including warping into a fleet of ships with drones in or out. Or turning on certain modules etc. For me it would happen whenever I was using an armor or hull repairer, or just being close to somebody else using a repairer.
I resolved this by going into audio settings and turning down the sound acceleration from full to basic. Since I did that I haven't had the reboots. You guys should try this first before thinking about spending money to fix the problem.
Alternatively just try disabling the sound in Eve to see if your problems still happen. If they don't then you've identified the problem.

Looks like its youre processor causing this... EVE uses the processor like crazy, especially in large battles so its likely that your processor overheats..

Edited by: Chedburn on 18/04/2006 04:28:01 Ive had this problem with other games in the past. I gave my PC a make over, it seemed re-doing the paste on the CPU > Heatsink did the trick, that could be the only problem. To check if your computer is overheating you can download programs to see the temperature of the main parts of your computer, you can also see how much the temp increases while playing eve. - Speedfan 4.28
Or you could simply make the graphics lower in eve, that would certainly fix it im sure (usualy change the resolution down).

Like I've posted a few times several ac 97 based (onboard cards and soundblaster cards among others) cards are causing the problem. I've got this problem on two machines, and few of my corp members are also experiencing that problem.
I've analyzed several minidumps and it points to the sound driver all the time. It's only eve that causes this. I've got no problems in other games.
I've BR it with crashdumps and logs etc.

well..it *appears* i have fixed my sound issue. i installed a slightly older realtek AC97 audio driver replacing the latest nforce4 one and it doesnt crash my system anymore.
was able to jump all over the place hunting pirates, mission runs, and mining without issue. hopefully it will continue to work.

Could you link that version or give me some more info on the date of the AC97 driver?

As was mentioned before, though not explained, you can also try lowering sound acceleration. To do this:
From desktop
START >> RUN >> DXDIAG
let it load up.
SOUND TAB >> SOUND ACCELERATION >> Change to either 'OFF' or 'BASIC' (off being the safe bet)

I had this problem also and it was the sound and it was a sound made during combat as this was the only time I would crash. I have a Gigabyte mb I went to there site and ran a program that update the chipset, audio, and usb drivers. I have not crashed since.

AC97 are aware of the problem and have new drivers out to rectify the fault, you might want to give that a try.

Hmmmm, interesting stuff gents. however since about 1 month I have been having much the same problems and if you will read I will list them;
Hardware; amd athlon 3.2ghz 1 gig ram Ati radeon 9600 (believe pro but not sure) Nforce soundcard onboard. Mobo; A7N8X-X asus, bios ver: 1011. 360watt psu no-name.
Tried to solve it by doing;
Fresh Win xp install, driver update and roll back for all peripherals and cards etc. Fresh install of eve (too damn big) With other applications running and even without anything else (of user choice).
However nothing seems to work, computer either crashes to desktop, reboots or goes to bsod.
No particular time does it quit on me (e.g. just after warping or such) has even happened just sitting in station, basically no way to predict it.
Voltages have been checked as have temperatures and all are stable and constant.
Just have no idea what to do now and don't under any circumstances want to buy a new computer or even components if I can help it.
Thanx for any time anyone can afford me.

Got the Realtek version of the AC 97 chip (on Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe) ALC850. I downloaded the latest AC 97 drivers from the Realtek homesite (WDM A386) and tried them out.
All I can say, so far, it works. I've run two clients at once with both sound and music. Flying around. The sound is choppy when both clients are online, but at least it didn't go BSOD. Compared to those from asus, it's a lot better. I could barely have sound on, with the drivers on asus' homepage. (nearly one year old too).
I hear some that uses the C-media version of AC 97 has reverted to a tad older driver than the current, and have gotten a more stable system. No bsod so far.
I hope this helps for others too.

Funny that ALL other programs are running (c&c generals, vent, winamp, teamspeak and browsing on the net all ath the same time, tried and tested), fine with no problems except a spot of lag from my end due to the cpu being overloaded.
Again thanks for any help you can afford me. __________________________________________
