it seems to me that shield tankers have a slight advantage over armour tankers when it comes to capital ships, the reason : faction shield boost amps. when comparing hardeners, the 61.75% gist X type shield hardeners and 64% core x-type are more or less on par. but the amps, like the pith X-type have no equivalent module for armour. since capital class faction loot does not exist ( imagin an x-type capital rep ...) i think therefore that shield tankers have a huge advantage over armourtankers with the amps, the pith x-type gives a 45% bonus to your shield tank (to slighty more available gist x 43%) , add 2 and go into siege mode,and on top of that, crystal implants will boost it even further. well good luck on breaking that tank. a dread tank is hard to break as it is, but on a carrier (no siege mode available) stuff like this could defenitely give a clear advantage to shield tankers
i am aware of the fact that armor and shield tanking is a completely different thing, yet i think the tanked hitpoints per sec is on capital ships adifferent ballgame.

you do know that capital tanking is all about efficiency and sustainability, right?
well, you need a 50% boost amp to reach the same efficiency with a (capital) shield booster that you get with an armor rep. and you're probably aware they don't exist: the best feasibly attainable is 41.25%, with the best theoretical being 45%. and you've just spent hundreds of mil more than the armor tanker, and you're STILL less efficient.

yes, but the armor tanker can put a CPR in when you add another boost amp, adding further advantage (without stacking penalty too). remember, each boost amp is a SLOT

i believe its a feature. a crystal tanked dread (not unlikely at all) would be so ridiculously powerful its not even funny
