Do something like with Apocrypha.. some event that we don't know about... the spattering of "news" stories during the day was fun and being able to log in and see a significant change was pretty cool.
Do something like blow up Jita 4-4. Have one of those Sansha turd-looking motherships invade the Family station in Amarr and make the wreck permament.
It's great that we get to see and test all the little changes but also to have something new revealed with patch notes on the day of the expansion would be even better... maybe skins/logos on ships. something. I don't care. |

Hoping I don't have to upgrade an OS this time. I'm running Snow Leopard on one machine and 7 on another. Would like to keep it that way! -á"Nerf it cause I can't fly it". I want to fly a badass Mon Calamari stlye-ácruiser painted to match my Tron clothes. |

To clarify, deleting boot.ini files is not the kind of launch event we want. Just sayin. |

Here's an idea: When the server goes up, no one logs in or updates for a while. Then we can laugh at the QA scrambling frantically to look for the bug in the network that seemingly keeps people locked out. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

One thing I always thought would be cool would be to reinstate the first full release of EVE (from back in 2003) during the downtime. Would be some epic nostagia and you could see just how far the game has come.

In defense of the OP, it *was* quite a ride that patch day. But that took quite some time and work before hand. With all the, I mean with the giant list they think they're going to put into next patch, I won't mind watching a grey wall for a day.
But yes, that was one of the more memorable patch days. |

Just make sure you queue up atleast a 15 day skill. Might be a good time to train titan. With CCP record the game will probably be unplayable for 14 days after the servers come up
I also suport the "no one logs in idea" that way I can get faster download speeds. -á"Nerf it cause I can't fly it". I want to fly a badass Mon Calamari stlye-ácruiser painted to match my Tron clothes. |

I don't get it.
So then, after downtime, we play EvE 1.0 ??
Or ... play EvE 1.0 during downtime? I really hope you didn't mean that, because it would make you look really stupid... :) |

Don't upgrade to Lion ... I may use that time to reinstall Snow Leopard. Imagine playing Donkey Kong where every barrel looks like it hits you. Would you rather I fix the barrels or Kong's shadow?

Was a few years ago now, but was awesome fun at the time!
And you do know that CCP do actually expand their hardware over the years to cope with extra players? EVE would be pretty unplayable if we were still on 2003 hardware |

If CCP wants to really test time dilation during downtime do another Armageddon (all systems 0.0, all items seeded in every system, all characters max SP) day on Sisi during the downtime. Last time they did this the test server crumpled into a black hole and CCP has refused to do it again since. Probably because they don't want to have to explain to their hosting company why the building hosting the servers just burnt to the ground or disappeared into another black hole. |

I fully support this ..
I was hooked reading "what was going on" in EVE during downtime when they launched the factional warfare stuff. The Concord Assembly being trashed, the invasion stuff ..
I know it probably was a bit of effort but the thing EVE has been lacking a lot of recently is immersive content provided by the CCP side .. Yes we have a sandbox, but sometime you need a few major "realistic" events to be constructed .. e.g. the Titan at Lumminaire etc.
That makes EVE Fun .. It makes it epic. |
