Im really curious and I appreciate your replies.
PS:No I will never mine just wondering

miner 2, shield tank, full set of mining upgrades in the lows.
might manage 120m^3 / min in an itty 5.

so thats good then? cause im just curious, if ppl would mine like this they could be afk, no ore thiefs and its cheap I would assume compared to a ore/exhumer.

well thats what I figured (hypothetical.) So cons/pros? like compared to lets say a cruiser mining solo!?

as comparison to the indy's yield a max skilled osprey or scythe gets 562.5m^3 / min with no mining drones, covetors and hulks get well over 1000. mining in an indy is a waste of time.

hmm well guess perhaps it could be considered a waste. BUT! and there is perhaps a but!? you tell me
oh and cruiser soloing is a bit crap to right? unless you got a hauler docked or an alt true? and you can get robbed, can you in anyway get robbed using secure cans?
Im a noob, bear with me :P |

mining in a cruiser can make you some decent isk if you have a hauler docked. don't keep more than one cargo load for the indy in your jetcan and mine in an out of the way system and you should'nt have any trouble with oe thieves.
secure can's are a pita, you can't deploy them withing 5km of anything which makes it difficult to get a decent spot in a lot of belts, also you can't move them to a new part of the belt easily.

Is their away to steal a secure can in highsec? anyway at all?
so if you carry a secure can in cargo, can you load that can so in the end you can haul more stuff in your hauler?
And a secure can or/and any can, can you load that can with tons of stuff like 5000m3 then scoop that can to a hauler with only 3000m3? if the can itself takes 3000m3?

First of all, only n00bs fly a Badger and actually MINE with it.
Secondly, not you cannot do that fancy can trick, at least not to that extent.
Want to mine? Get a Cormorant with a full rack of Miner IIs or EP-S Gaussian. ---------

Edited by: Rebekka Ammund on 12/04/2006 01:54:19 Badger II Hi: modulated deep-core minerII with whatever crystal smartbomb of choice Medium: lots of cap-batteries and cap-rechargers along with a medium shield-boost(yeah, but it works, believe me) Low: armor
With good mining skills(I can use just about any T2 crystal) I can fill the Badger II up in 30-35 minutes. I'm sure I could swap the SB for an auto-targeter, and add sensor-dampeners to keep rats from locking, but with the shield recharger toggled when necessary and the HUGE armor I just kinda ignore them in .7 space and above.
I do it because I don't get on much...don't have many m8s in my corp, and hate running back and forth. I can sit and listen to music!!!

you're quite welcome. As far as I'm concerned you can be like everyone else or you can be cool...and being able to use a ship EFFECTIVELY for a purpose other than it's intended one is COOL in my book!

Edited by: Heloise ChateauBriande on 13/04/2006 00:28:27 Mama Helo is going to share the unasked for anecdote.
In my early days I was doing some mining in a 0.5 system. An industrial entered the asteroid belt and found an asteroid nearby to mine. I was absolutely positive that this was an orethief coming around and the mining laser was cover. I was trying to figure out whether I should keep mining into a can (more profits for the theif!?!) or try to haul what I could before the orethief could take it all.
Then some rats came to the belt and blew it up. About 30 minutes later an angry voice in local - what happened to my ship!!!?!?!
End of story,
Mama Helo

the only situation in which mining in a industrial should be considered is afk-mining. The basic idea is to find a huge rock, point lasers at it and go afk. If you're in a system (0.9 or 1.0) that hasn't got beltrats, you can use whatever setup. If lower, go with a passive shield-recharge setup and have fun.
Miner II 1x Medium Extender, 4x Shield Rechargers, 1x survey scan 3x Cargo Expanders
That being said, AFK-mining is bad for you(tm)

I do this sometimes. I an alt I am training up for mining that has Industrial up to lvl 3. I use him to haul, but I can't mine fast enough to keep him busy. So I sit him next to me, slap a miner two on him and mine away. Fills the cargo hold a little faster.

OP: remove the smartie, and you'll be fine.
I regularly AFK mined with my alt before he got too many SPs, here in the UK you get ~3 hours from logging in before work, to an auto-disconnect at DT.
I'm actually finding the Iteron V the 'afk indy miner's' weapon of choice. You can fill with mining upgrades for quick work, expanders for the long-haul (pardon the pun), and you can even successfully armour tank it in 0.5.

Well, with a Small Inefficient Armour Repairer and some Energized Adaptive Nano, alongside semi-decent cap and armour hardening skills; I can tank least 4x 7.5k rats that appear in 0.5.
I could probably tank a little bit more, but then I AFK mine a lot, so 0.4 could mean that anyone can come along and pop me.

Hello everyone, Rebekka, I was wondering if you could be more specific? You say in your setup lots of cap-batteries, how many is that and for lower you put Armor.
I'm also a newbie and am about to purchase a Badger II and it seems your setup works great. I'm still not quite clear on the Eve Equipment Lingo yet haha! I noticed alot of people who have played the game for awhile usually abbreviate their setups but I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to be more specific about your setup.
Thanks so much!! I'm really enjoying the game and the friendly community.
