I have lost my fair share of ships in my short Career. The physical loss of the ship is painful enough, but the real pain comes from knowing I have to spend the next hour or more outfitting a new ship. It was fun the first couple of times. But now i'm growing tired of the lag everytime I open and close the market. Everytime I buy something in the Market (and even when I move the scroll bar) I see that the 4 200 mm condensed coils I want are 8 systems away and the 10MN Afterburner II is 6 jumps in the opposite direction. It would be nice if Items could be delivered Even if it were for a fee.
Today in real life you can order a part from www.newegg.com and have it arrive the very next day.
Proposal:
How bout a delievery option (for a fee). The farther away the more expensive the dilivery is. Faster you get it, the more expensive it is. 15 minute delivery, 30 minute delivery, 1 hour delivery.
I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round. |

It would open up new areas for player pirates attacking shipments if a refund of the cost was payable to you on loss of said items. If player pirates could attack the shipment that your items were being carried on, you receive an evemail saying: "xyz carriers were unfortunately attacked by pirates while delivering your goods. We are obliged to compensate you for the loss of your order but unfortunately we were unable to deliver your goods. We apologise for the inconvenience."
This opens up more areas for player pirates. Currently, attacking convoys gets massive amounts of minerals and not much else, not much good to someone with a ship with practically no cargo space. It would be good if it had the advantage of giving other items that may be of use. Player pirates would have more to do than just camp gates all day. It also allows for player rats who are starting out on their career instead of requiring them to have fairly good PVP skills before they start.
You shipment may be intercepted although the only loss to you would be the waiting time for delivery. You would have to make the decision to have them shipped again or get them yourself.
To avoid exploit. Shipments don't always come from the same direction, they don't use gates but may be seen travelling through certain systems but not necessarily near a station. No delivery time is given and it could be anytime within a 24 hour period. They don't actually dock at your station, they just need to be in the system for the goods to be delivered. Therefore they could only be attacked if someone comes across them by chance.
With enough people ordering goods to be delivered, player pirates may come across shipments fairly frequently just by doing circuits around local planets, belts, stations etc.

Maybe you stumbled across a trade rout!
I usually stock up on modules I use. I'll by a bundle of them and keep them in my hanger for the future. Sometimes I buy a really large bundle and put a few on the market. After all, your probably not the only one looking for this iteam. And if there are a whole bunch a few jumps away, someone is probably producing those items there. So, they'll restock 'em.
Just buy the lot of 'em, move 'em and resell 'em for a small markup!

Option is already there, really- simply set up a couple of player-created couriermissions. They are not used often enough, imho.

The only problem with this would be people buying stuff from empire space to be delivered to their low-sec station, and then ambushing the NPC delivery ships on the way there, grabing the cargo and then getting a refund of the costs.

Actually, I would be for the item just showing up in your hanger in 15 minutes (or 30 or 60).
