Edited by: Hurada on 12/04/2006 08:31:40 I've just started to venture into lowsec again after leaving my corp. Im using a Rifter since its cheap and fun to go ratting in 0.4 empire space.
I am suprised by the number of miners there without protection. Last nite I found a Sythe jet mining alone, and in the same system a 2 or 3 man op without protection. One guy in a BC mining away! All ignored me when I warped in Whats up with this? I am pretty sure I could have walzed over and flattened them without retaliation. Im my last corp we always had security when it was available even if it meant less miners.
Should I blast them next time?

An aye on local and a clue and being able to use a scanner is the only security you need in lowsec.

We prefer the term bait. And we have some master baiters in our little anti-pirate group.

We're pretty new at the whole death and destruction thing, but in the short time we've been at it we've seen similar oddness. One I remember quite clearly was a mammoth suckling at some roids in a 0.4. Three of us jump into the system and wait around a bit for a slowpoke fourth to join us before we carry on to our destination. Probably 5 minutes pass before we got bored and found him still at the belt and blew him away.
Maybe I'm twitchy but I'd have been in a SS the instant I saw local fill up like that.

I mine with a Retriever barge in 0.1, and in another month will be doing the same in a Covetor. Just keep the ship aligned, watch local, and trust absolutely no one.

Most importantly where were these people. They obviously need some lessons in security.

There are three kinds of people. Those that can count, and those that cannot.

You want system names? Sotrenzur and Brin. Only 4 jumps from each other. Plenty of miners there.

just curious... does a dominix and a retreiver both mining in one location, count as "without security" or not? I mean for the pirates's "prospective victim threat analysis".

Well, 'without security' isnt always as it seems. I had a pirate friend die because the person's he killed mining op came back in their battle gear. Also they check local mainly, and if you do a lot of ratting then you should have a slightly possitive status (and thus not a huge threat). However I do agree that letting anyone too close to you is a bad thing, which is why you need to be warped aligned

I still wake up screaming sometimes when I dream about the 'helpless mining operation' I saw on my scanner the other day. Barges, indies and mining battleships. Turned out the battleships where using one mining laser only. The other highslots were filled with other stuff. Bad stuff.
Was good fun actually and shows why pirates should not stay in the same area for too long a time.
