Just been wondering this for while now, why do u do it? 
i don't think you do it for fun, as its rather boring, so what other reasons are there

They are working for "SpacePeace". This is an organisation that developed from the so called "GreenPeace", an ancient organisation on old earth. They obligated themselves to keep space clean of all those little things polluting our environment.

some folks do it to get killboard points. For some its all about getting the quotas for the Killboard killer of the week, ala Counterstrike.
Me I would be bored stiff but EvE is flexible enough to accomodate all player styles.

You will be surprised what people carry in shuttles. BPO's, BPC's, implants just to name a few.

Yep, even though sniping is very boring it does have its financial rewards on occasions

I dislike sniping because the only way to counter it is more sniping. EW doesn't work because how many ECM mods can guarantee a hit at 200km, you can't try and maximise transversal because you're 100-200km off each other, it's just alpha strike = win. I find it boring as well but I know several pilots who think there's nothing better than loading up a sniperthron/artypest and sitting 200km off a gate.

It's a PITA to tank sentries solo and gimps fast locking setups.
It's not just killing frigs. I've killed hacs and battleships that thought they could slowboat to a gate.
I've also popped a noob ship full of zydrine. All this in the past 2 days.
After a month of dock / blob / log / alt scouting warfare sniping seemed like an attractive proposition.

Haha i got my first solo BS kill the other day.
Raven snipering at a gate (170km).
I warp to gate then warp to station behind the camper. All the well thinking there is no way this is going to work.
Get to station and then warp back to gate at 100km. he still here, make bookmark and warp back to station.
Get back to station, scan gate, omfg he is still there.
ok last time landed +-70km from him.
Warp to book mark at 80km.
OMG he is still here and I am 5km away. This took me a good 10 minutes to setup with the warping back and forth.
Well the ac tempest did what it does and chewed the raven apart.
Loved the t2 loot.
Now i cant wait to find more ppl snipering, although maybe that was just the region idi*t that i caught there.
So put in the effort, who knows what will happen.

And yes you would be surprised what some people carry in frigs at times.
Also haulers that drop me T2 mods and nice minerals roxxor.
Although i did recently "reform" so we could go and kick some empire butt but i digress >.<

its way to make isk for ppl who dont do pve (mining, missions, npcing etc :)
u would be surprised what all those shuttles/frigs/other ships drop in low empire :)

Yes, even the smallest frig can drop some damn good loot.
I saw someone sniping, and he popped a frig with a torp BPO. almost 10 mil right there. But he didn't have any friends around so i took all of his loot. \o/
EDIT: not that i advocate sniping~~
