What about adding some pod related skills? For example: Increase speed(would be very popular i think)? Increase shield/armor/hull?(though it wouldn't have much to say, but still nice) Maybe a skill to give it a small cargohold? Faster/longer warp?

It's not really intended to be an independent ship, it really is just an escape capsule. If you want to carry small quantities of cargo about the place quickly, try buying a shuttle or a Kestrel, or even an interceptor or something, is my advice.
EDIT:
There's kind of a limit to suspension of disbelief, too. I can accept that a more skilled pilot might be able to squeeze more cargo space out of an Iteron or something, perhaps by making more efficient use of the space... but you can't really make more efficient use of space that doesn't physically exist.

your pod is surposed to be slow and easily killable.
its pritty agile and can get to warp in nearly no time (in the open).
I dont see it being a huge pay off.

i never meant flying the actual pod as a shuttle or something else, would be stupide.
And those were just suggestions. wouldn't think the cargo skill to be any realistic anyway.

Except for the cargo space, you have skills to do these things already. They're just not pod specific.

i think each different clone type should have a different pod. so the best clone would come with an uber tanked pod might encourage some people do not just get the clone that covers there sp

These skills already exist.
More Speed = Navigation More Shield = Shield Managment Longer Warps = Energy Management/Warp Drive Operation More Cargo = Not needed.

In the order you listed them:
Navigation
Shield Management/Hull Upgrades/Mechanic
Cargo holds would be useless.
Pods can already warp several THOUSAND AUs. We don't need to be able to warp farther in them. There's no real reason to increase speed either, since no other ships get this skill either.

Spend allot of time in a pod?
I once spent like 5 or 6 days in pod trying to get through an ATUK camp I think it was.
