Hey all, I've been doodling on a piece of scratch paper at work with a PI plan, and wanted to put my production plan down and get some feedback.
I'm planning to run 1-day cycles on my extractors, so that I can adjust the heads each morning. Just farting around in hi-sec, it looks like getting 12,000 RAW an hour is pretty feasible, or two P1 processors running 24 hours. So setting up five P2 planets would look like:
1x Launchpad (route to P1s) 2x Extractor [7 heads] route to Launchpad 4x P1 Processor (route to P2s) 2x P2 Processor (route to Launchpad)
With CCU 4 & IC 4, I should be able to build that no problem on 5 planets. With a median value of 6,000 ISK for P2 products, that should work out to about 1.44M per day per planet, or 216M per month (before paying taxes 5 times to pickup)
The other plan would be to run a P3 setup; with my current skills I think it would be best to run four P1 planets and then a P3 assembly planet:
Planets 1-4 1x Launchpad (route to P1s) 2x Extractor [7 heads] route to Launchpad 4x P1 Processor (route to Launchpad)
Planet 5 1x Launchpad (route to P2s) 8x P2 Processor (route to P3s) 2x P3 Processor (route to Launchpad)
Ultimately that would kick out six P3 units and hour, which with a median value of 50,000 ISK, works out to... 216M per month, plus I'm paying taxes an extra time now (pick up P1 x4, drop off P1, pick up P3). (I looked at running five P3 planets, but the fitting for 4 extractors makes pulling out even 6000 RAW an hour pretty unfeasible for me.)
So is five P2 planets the way to go then? It sure seems like it. |

Not really answer to your question but its safer to route everything through the launchpad. Ext->Pad->P1->Pad->P2->Pad->P3->Pad etc
Hicups are rare but this extra storage usage saves you from them. |

I do actually route everything through the Launchpad, I was just being brief in the description. .....................BB E------------------A-L-A------------------E .....................BB
That's how it all looks on the map, every thing linked/routed through the Launchpad. |

Be prepared to change your setup every now and again as prices change. I like to work my PI right the way up to control towers and such so my manufacturing plant is P3's and P4's.
It might be a good idea to set your cycles to 26 hours as the tail end extraction won't change much and it gives you some leeway on sorting them for the days run

doing p0->p2 has downsides in amount you can extract, but it dodges taxes and requires very little maintenance. Upgrades 5 will give you more power which should make a big difference in the total you can produce.
The lack of a separate silo/pad for p0 storage means the longer you let your p2 pile up, the greater the chance of lost p0 due to insufficient storage.
Taxes on this setup should be really easy to calculate, given that you have one export step and 0 imports. So calculate the taxes ahead of time.
4x p1 and 1x p2->p3 is a good setup and produces more, but it means much more hauling and more taxes. You absolutely have to calculate those if this is your setup. I wouldn't be surprised if the advantage of this setup is quickly lost due to high taxes in hisec. When I ran this in null it meant emptying p1 planets every few days, which got old after a month. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

I'm a lazy PI player, and generally run the following P0->P2 chain on my planets:
E ---> A - A - B - B - B - L - B - B - B - A <--- E
Depending on the planet resources available and your command center upgrade level, you can permarun 2-4 P2 processors. Truth be told, as I'm a lazy nullsec'er, I usually do 3x P2 processors, and Replace the Launch pad with a Storage facility with a launch pad attached orthogonally to it. This allows me to extract tons of stuff into the Storage facility and dump P1/P2 products into the launch pad. Letting them run full time, I only need to pickup materials once ever several weeks, making this very low effort with decent rewards. |

As long as I'm in hi-sec, I really doubt I'll be able to keep 3 P2s running 24/7. It takes me at least 5 heads to get up to 12k P0/hour. Once I move my operation into nullsec, I'm sure I'll need fewer heads, making room for some storage facilities.
I've seen a chain like this a lot for P0>P2 production:
E-S---B-B-A-L-A-B-B---S-E
By putting the storage right next to the Extractor, you only need to upgrade a very short link from the extractor to storage, as the flow after that is regulated. The above setup still needs 12k P0/hour on each extractor, and in hisec I just can't pull that off with less than 5 heads per extractor. |

In null sec, you'll want to only extract one resource per planet, and max out the heads with p1's and a launchpad as the hub. |

extractor 10 heads 2 storage tied to the extractor (can hold more that 2 days so you can do one type of p0 on odd days and another on even days 2 factories each for p0 to p1 on each of the extractors and then going to the launch pad 2 factories extending below the launch pad for p1 to p2
