Edited by: Rnarions on 16/09/2003 21:01:09 So I'm flying to go pirate hunting and i warp into FD-MLJ. I'd have expected to see some pirates there but NOT evol sitting there with drones fully deployed. After lagging for a good 20 seconds I am instantly blown up. I ask in local why they killed me and they wouldn't respond. They are also now negative faction. So whats up? Are they pk now or what!! I demand an explanation!

They've always been player killers. FD-MLJ was SIN turf. They moved in.
Surprises me you didn't pay attention to the local channel, as it's a known SINC system.

well yes, before there was a time when Sutty & co could be seen painting flowers on peoples hulls and putting Jovian 'wild' daisys in peoples gun muzzles.
however, the booster overdose eventually wears off, and now they are in come down. it should wear off in.. oh... a year or four.

Good to see once again Evolution acting like intergalactic pirates. To everyone who thought their attacks on other corporations or regions was justified even though they showed no evidence I hope you see what they are really like. A PK'ing pirate corporation who use marginal exploits (drones all over???? When did you start doing this????) to slaughter people who dont even have control of their ships yet. Way to go pirates! Harr Harr as Stav would say! Thank you.

Cute babe..
I think you should ask the question "why" a little more often. Do you think that it is plausible that a corporation gather an odd 10 battleships and go down to a wellknow pirate infested area. To blow up a shuttle and a frigate or two. ?
Please, maybe use your intelligence a bit.
You think that n00b's in shuttles or even free n00b ships just "happens" to stroll around in one of the more leathal systems in the game while "pirates" hiding in the station are ****ed that they can't come out?

Well, maybe he was a pirate alt spying on the Evolution forces, or maybe he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Why would a shuttle or noob ship be in FD-MLJ you might ask? I can think of several reasons...
1) Spying on the Evolution battle forces
2) Going to a station to check the Syndicate market to see if there's any trade goods worth running the blockade for
3) Scouting to see if there IS a blockade up at the moment, and if so if it looks runnable
Now, Evolution corp is well-known for assuming EVERYONE they don't know is a spy. Why? Presumably because they're just a bit paranoid...
I have a lot of respect for Evolution's combat abilities, but they really need to change their tactics if they're fighting in FD-MLJ. Everyone scouts that system before they try to take anything valuable through unless they're just plain nuts or have instant-jump bookmarks set up. Shooting every unidentified ship without warning is only helping the pirates, because it keeps people from scouting the gates leading farther into Syndicate and Placid. Pirates hiding in the station don't NEED scouts... they can see your names in Local channel if you're in the system. That means once you chase them into the station, they KNOW if you're still hanging around. If they need to know who's outside the station itself, someone can undock and then immediately redock to take a look. You'll never lock on and do enough damage to kill him in those few seconds...
Bottom line: if you kill strangers on sight just for passing through the system you're as bad as the pirates. Unless Evolution is at war with the SPA (and I've not heard anything to that effect), I assume you're there to fight the pirates, not be pirates. As long as someone is headed for a gate or a station, what's the harm in letting them pass? If they warp around looking for your ships then of course you should kill them or chase them off, but if they're conducting legitimate business why fire? And yes, it IS easy to tell the difference. Innocent travellers get the hell out of FD-MLJ as quickly as possible; they warp to a gate or station, turn on all speed boosters, and try to jump / dock before some pirate kills them. Or they warp in, take one look at the blockade, and run back to Empire space. If someone actually stays around and DOESN'T look like they're in a hurry to leave... THAT sounds like a spy.

/me hugs everyone who's n00b alt has lost a n00bship.
Since it's really hard to replace a n00b ship and a clone without skill points.
And yes, invading FD-MLJ instantly causes some n00bships to hang around. For some strange reason.

Archemedes..Dude.. I'm not even going to read your whole post. I'll just answer the most obvious stupid thing
Quote: 2) Going to a station to check the Syndicate market to see if there's any trade goods worth running the blockade for
... Syndicate market do not start in the system. No need to go there
Quote: 3) Scouting to see if there IS a blockade up at the moment, and if so if it looks runnable
If 10-15 pilots in space at a very voilatile system don't tip you off that its probably not a good day to come. I think you deserve to be shot. Pure Darwin.
As graciously I am I'm offering to pay for all the shuttles that was destroyed!
We are looking at.. 20k maybe? Or was it 10k
I'm not sure about the n00b ships.. 1 trit or two?
hmmm..
Only thing I wont pay for is Vegetas friend that just happened to "innocently" drive around in an indy checking out the gates
Whats the matter with people? Complaining on some guys that go down and actually DO something about the lameass greifers that infest the area. You should be applauding! But all you come with is boo-whistles over 20-20k collateral dmg that was, unfortunately, nescessary.
20k and the pirates where locked down for a long time. Most of them logging for the night How much damage would there have been done to "innocent victims" if they had been camping?

I have no problem murdering n00bs in n00b ships that repeatedly come to where we are.
I only wish you was one of them High Priestess.
Btw we did waste Magua from M0o in his Raven, later booted out by Stavros. Not to mention a few other pirates.
Also if you can't handle that High Priestess, why not come down to where we are and do something about it, rather than continually running the mouth off.

Edited by: Archemedes on 17/09/2003 04:19:41 FD-MLJ is in the Syndicate region. It has stations. Therefore, one CAN check the Syndicate market from FD-MLJ. It also happens to be the first system in Syndicate with a station...
And I wasn't whining or anything (hell, I never go to FD-MLJ without being ready to lose my ship and would laugh at anyone who did), I was simply pointing out that there are legitimate reasons to be there that don't involve piracy or pirate hunting. I was also pointing out that if the pirate hunters kill strangers on sight then for the rest of the galaxy the pirates might as well still be at the blockade instead of hiding in the station.
It has nothing to do with the ships themselves... anyone who can't replace a shuttle or frigate without even feeling it has little business in 0.0 space. But FD-MLJ is not some backwater war zone where only people who were involved in the war are likely to go... it's a very busy bottleneck system, and it's dangerous enough that scouting first is a good idea. So even if the 0.0 guy in the noob ship IS an alt and not just a trader who doesn't fight enough pirates to get a SS boost, he could just as easily be scouting a trade route as spying on YOU. Might want to consider moderating the usual Evolution policy of shooting anyone who could possibly be a spy in that particular system due to the large amount of legitimate traffic. <shrug> Or not, up to you. It all comes down to motives... are you just there to settle a personal score or do you care about opening up a vital system for travel?
PS: Only reason I even posted is because everyone was laughing at the original poster and assuming he was a Sinister corp spy. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but the lack of sympathy triggered my "defend the underdog" reflex. I personally believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt rather than assuming the worst... and yes I do know it'll probably cost me a ship some day.
