anyone know how low your sec status can get before
sentry guns and police in 0.5+ systems start giving you grief?

Depends on the sec level of the system I think? I dont know the levels tho.

Sentry guns in 0.5 or above space will only fire once your sec.rating hits -5.0.
Police will atatck as follows:
-2.1 or below = police attack in 1.0
-2.5 or below = police attack in 0.9
-3.0 or below = police attack in 0.8
-3.5 or below = police attack in 0.7
and so on...
-4.5 or below = police attack in 0.5
-5.0 or below = police/sentry guns attack in 0.5 or above

Something to add for people that think it might be a good idea to attack a pirate with a -4.9 to 0.0 sec rating by a gate with guns, or station..........DON'T! you instead will get attacked by the sentry guns and killed.
usually pirates will float around 1.0 sec systems and lock people into making them fire. make sure that there isn't a gate nearby, and that they have a sec rating of -5 or lower before you attack, I was caught by this once, I learned my lesson, and now I'm telling the rest of you.

Hey, does that hold for *Empire* faction ratings and whether their Navies attack you? i.e. is the same scale and will the sentry guns kick in at -5.0 *faction* standing and such?
I can tell you for sure that a -4.0 faction with the Caldari faction causes their Navy to show up with hostile intent when I enter their 1.0 and 0.9 systems.
What I'm wondering is if the sec rating of the system matters like it does for sec status? (and if I should stay away from (a) caldari sentry guns if/or (b) I drop to -6.0 caldari standing).
This should be a sticky or in the online help thing or something.

Does this mean that (now all areas have sentry guns) sentry guns in 0.2 areas for example will still not attack you whatever your rating but just react to aggressive acts etc?

It still doesn't me I can't shoot you at the gate Viqer so no need to worry.

s00ks thanks for that, I and some members of the corp have been caught with that.. loosing ships to well armed and well prepped bounty hunters/miners is one thing.. loosing it to the gates gets my goat :)
