What if there were cities on the planets? that way it would open up an WHOLE new market. passengers, supply needs ++++
It could work great in an expansion pack! This would be cool for those that isn't really interested in the space life, but would like a life on a planet. And if find yourself looking at the stars, and decide you want to persue a life in space, Go to the nearest space ship supplier and get your hands on a space ship, but you still have a beautiful home to go back to at Paye 2. :)
then you can have npc passangers as well as pc passangers. you can also have planet corps that do mining, trading +++ (and perhaps fight) on planets, and you have the normal space corp. and if you feel like making some really big bucks, your corp could be both.
And if you started playing EVE online you have to get the expansion pack to buy a home, and if you bought the standalone expansion pack first you have to but EVE online to buy a space ship.
Just a thought. :)

Hey, the idea is not bad. Lets merge Star Wars galaxies and EVE and we could have the ultimate game;)

Aaaah another with that bright idea as i self posted 1 month ago this will really boost the greatness of EVE and make marketing even more interesting in the game. It will be nice to own planets in the game and get taxes from em in that way they can be usefull in EVE atm.

Indeed it does! It would throw around trading as we know it! With houses and corps on the surface it will throw around trading as we know it!
There would actually be demand for construction blocks to build houses, and perhaps anitbiotics to treat illness, and perhaps some more npc buyers for all the drugs that is on the market at the moment? and there would also be demand for alot of other items in an endless possibilety of various buildings/vehicles/tools and so on.
And not only the trading would change, I think if you only want to have a house somewhere. a place thats "home" I surely would love this! :) a house on the contryside, perhaps by a lake. Next to a mountain that I bought where I can mine my ass of, or perhaps hire miners from a mining corp (real persons of course), and pay them wages/minerals for their work.
That would also open up a whole new world of theft as the workers might steal ore from you, threathen and/or take control of your land +++

Edited by: Jerrico Delen on 17/09/2003 12:14:30 Planets would be great, to be able to buy a house, hire minions (e.g. NPC scientists, Marines, farmers etc.) and visit cities.
You could use a really simple interface for it, just have a station style interface for the whole planet, with unique buttons for housing etc.
It would be great if you could, say, build a farm, hire workers and get so much wheat per farm day in your hanger on the planet. You could build up a trading empire based on farming.
That would be a great way to expand the game.

What about 'taking over' a planet and introduce taxes :)
This is truely a great idea, and will open up a whole lot of new idea's/market possibilities/skills.
I vote for a sticky on this one!

the farming idea would be great, but then you need some kind of demand for wheat, orelse it wouldn't do much good. :/ if would be cool to have a farm by my house on the country too! Perhaps a npc demand for food? citizens need food :)
And of course it must be able to take over planets! :) and if the oppressor set the taxes to high, the citizens (players) may riot, starting to sabotage for the hostile and/or moving out.
This again opens a new market for the mercenaries, that would be more than willing to act on the citizens behalf (if the price is right of course)
If anybody that can change the topic of my post reads it, please change it to "Planets". hehe

It is in Freelancer I don't see why it couldn't be implemented here... with planetary defence systems, and some new corps which control enitre solar systems from a central planet

yeah, but to do that, you need to cooperate with space corps for protection/supply routes/building supplies and so on :)

If you made space stations have a regular demand for trade goods such as food/water/etc then a simple factory slot style production on planets would add real depth to the game.

Thats right, but every planet doesn't have be used, perhaps only a few? 10-15? That way you could live on a planet if you like or stay in space, and you would still see people everywhere

5,000 people online at any given time ... if we were all on ONE planet, it's highly unlikely that you'd ever run into any of the others. The player base needs to be vastly higher than it is now before we start talking about moving onto planetary surfaces.
Good idea, though ... just not the right time yet
