Hello,
Right now the market window updates very slow, sometimes taking 3-5 seconds for it to load a display of items. This is understandable, given the size of the market. That said, this updating period currently locks up the game, meaning you see the same frame and cannot interact with the game for these several seconds.
While it sounds like a small thing, it adds up to being a big annoyance when you are doing lots of market research while trying to do other things as well.
Without trying to spin off overly technical suggestions to the devs (who know what they're doing already), if the market window could run in its own thread (or at least the updating portion of it) then we could continue to interact with the rest of the game while its working.
Thanks for reading my idea, Mersi |

i don't think that would help at all
the market isn't taking CPU time, it's taking bandwidth. (I think)

That is exactly the reason for which moving it to its own thread would fix the problem. :-) -------------------- Do you have a solution to the BM and instas problem? Test it against the bookmark requirements. |

If it's due to bandwidth, I would love the option to limit the bandwidth the market window can use. I'm just fine with slower market window updates, if it means I can keep doing whatever else at the same time. Right now everything comes to a halt whenever I update the market window. And I'm on a broadband connection with a decent PC.

To me it seems more an issue of window layout. 90% of what I use the market window for is to get at the info button for an item or to get it's current detailed price. Waiting for a page to be drawn of an entire catagory of items is a complete waste of time and resources. The interface should be laid-out in a way so that such a screen is only drawn after a specific click by the user -perhaps a "comparision" or "catagory" display button? Or perhaps just allow a mouse click on a specific item in the menu list to cancel the current operations and go straight to that item without waiting? On a slow machine opening the hull mods catagory can lock your screen for up to 15 secs to display a page you didn't want to see in the first place. Very aggrevating. Or worse, go to a heavily updated item like Tritanium during peak game play hours. The window updates will sometimes come so fast they almost trip over each other and the entire interface stays constantly locked the entire time (I'm on a slower machine, and add in the fact that these updates seem to force constant garbage collection runs on the client, compounds the problem 2x or 3x fold.) Absolutely maddening.

right click on an item and use "view market Info" than .. rather than open market first ... --------------------------------------------------------- a Challenge System for Eve |

To TheBelgarion, I already use right click on the item, or my quick list for my most common items. I now even heavily use the search tab if I can remember even part of the item's name -anything to keep from having to wade thru the marketing menu.
But if you have players actively avoiding part of your game interface because it's so horrible, doesn't that clearly indicate the need to fix it rather than suggest work-arounds? :)

I don't think it's a bandwidth issue. It happens while warping which doesn't take any bandwidth at all until you come out of warp and need to see what is around you.
Open the market just after you get into warp and it will freeze the game for several seconds. In fact, do it anywhere that bandwidth is barely used, a station, a safe spot or anywhere else where there are no other objects moving around you that need constantly updating.
If it was bandwidth, you should still be able to move the camera around your ship while it was loading. The fact is that you are unable to interact in any way with your ship or screen.
Even when I have had broken connections to the server as I reached a gate, my ship simply bounced off the gate and remained there for several seconds floating near the gate. I was still able to look around and even change the camera view to look at a customs ship while my ship remained there, about ten seconds later, it dropped back to desktop with a broken connection message.
Therefore if the market was taking all the bandwidth, it would still allow my screen and controls to function just as it did during a break in connection.

THAT lag appears to be client-side.

Another way would be to have market load every time on the search tab and never on the browse tab. That way, if you forget to switch back to the search or quickbar tab on close, you don't have to wait for market to load up again.
I also find personally, that if none of the groups in market are expanded and show only available is checked, the 3 to 4 seconds becomes 1 to 2 seconds (:P)
