I miss the old player-ship explosion effects. The way the lights would go off, as though through a ship-wide loss of power, then a flat KRUMP and the ship disintegrates and a blue disk-shaped shockwave radiates out.
Now we just get boring orange NPC booms.

I liked the old npc bs explosions before Exodus. The ones where your screen would go compleatly white if you were too close.

That would be my ultimate complaint. Battleships are supposed to be rare, powerful, important things. When everbody, everybody's grandmother, and her poodle all fly battleships, and there are ten times as many battleships in space as all the other ships, it's just wrong.

Not strictly things that have been 'taken out' but I miss them, what the hell...
a) When tech 2 didn't exist and you could build + kit a ship in 0.0 without all the tedious empire trudging.
b) When tech 2 didn't exist and named modules were hot stuff, but not like.. essential to have.
c) When tech 2 didn't exist and you didn't feel like you were winning a fight just because you had x zillion skill points and could use it all the best t2.
d) When people who got lucky through the tech 2 lottery didn't have a license to print ISK and lose capital ships or faction battleships everday if they wanted.
d) Basically I miss when tech 2 didn't exist.
Also.. e) The +3 Perception implant glut (when they were 4mil each or so). That was cool, wish I'd stocked up instead of trying to sell before they went lower
f) Being able to get ceptor 1vs1 everywhere you went because everyone flew them and all the other new fangled t2 fr/cr/de didn't exist. We should have a "ceptors only" day on TQ once a month. _

Mines. WCS being a mid-slot item. People being excited about a new 7500 concurrent players record. Lack of shuttles and highways. Instas labelled T1, T2, T3, T4 rather than properly. Jump-in point ganksquads. Crielere-scale events. Gankageddons.

I was gonna write that too! You beat me to it! That sound was scary! Used to turn up the volume so I could hear if I was being targeted from the other side of the apartment when doing long afk hauls. And then ruuuuun for the computer when I heard it!
Not to mention how people destroyed others in empire simply because they got targeted by them. And the discussions wether it was right or wrong to shoot first just because you were targeted! Good old times!

Mines and dual MWD...

I actually don't miss dual afterburners/MWD very much, battleships flying around faster than interceptors were pretty stupid.
However, the thing that I miss is when oversized afterburners worked. I used to fly a Coercer with a 10MN afterburner as a sort of high-speed light cargo transport, it worked brilliantly. Then they nerfed it so that oversized MWDs slow you way down and don't accelerate properly.
I actually still have one, but it's not the same. -------- Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk [04:21:15] Mebrithiel Ju'wien > Nik's bio 4tw btw [07:38:53] Graelyn > Nikolai for Dev 108!

I actually wrote a program to figure out if any ship and gear combination could fit a 10mn MWD on a frigate. It could. A single ship. The retribution with 2 +12 aux cores and 3 reactor control unit IIs, I think it was. By the time I'd trained to use the ship, they'd nerfed it :(.

The forum keeps posts from as early as 2003. Knock yourself out reading the old stuff, there was just as much whining back then. Well, we have more players now I guess so inevitably more of everything. But the proportions are about the same.
