What are everyone's thought concerning Micro Warp Drive and the shield/capacitor penalty they impose as far as PvP/Rats is concerned?

Edited by: Avatar Kumari on 17/09/2003 13:10:25 I think the situation will dictate wheather to use MWD's or not.
If you are just gate running-then I say use them.
If you plan on actually swapping fire with anyone-Don't. Go for Lif's and Overdrives just to keep optimal firing distance. Use jammers if necessary.
That's my take anyway, hope it helps.

I belive the penalties on shield and capacity are way too great to even consider using it in a potential combat situation. As such I only use it when doing routine agent missions or traveling long distances in higher security areas.
Besides this use it's useless and a waste of space as CCP have made it.. Which I find unfortunate and sad that such harsh penalties are put on such a lifesaver. I understand the nerfing of stuff that can kill, but not on stuff that can save.

Travel: Yes (if you don't want to get in trouble, you don't have to, seeing how easy it is to avoid/escape) NPC hunting: Close-range maybe, long-range yes PvP: In most cases no.
That's how I use them anyway.

I like MWD's, especially the Lif's.
If you're hunting npc's and not set-up to deal with pc's you instantly have an option to get out (I know that a couple of stasis webs will deal with them but I've managed to avoid trouble whenever I have one installed).
Travelling means that the trip is much faster. And the penalties are only a problem if you intend to use close range combat or need a lot of cap.
I also like projectiles

If you only plan to fight in one pvp-fight before docking again, a MWD is an option.
You know, you can switch it offline on station, then clicking it will toggle it online AND activate it, and your shield will slowly go down to the 50%, which doesnt really matter, cause your shield is shot down to 50% anyway before this will be significant.

Anyone that blind warps into a roid belt known to spawn high level pirates without one is asking to have their head handed to them. Corpmate landed in the middle of 5 40k Marauders. His ship, to his estimate, lasted about 10-15 seconds.

Edited by: Ana Khouri on 17/09/2003 14:38:53 I'm quite the opposite opinion of the general crowd here.
NPC: No, exept you have a longrange setup. PVP: YES.
Why in PVP in spite of the big cap and shield penality? Longrange vs shortrange. Equip a ship with shortrange weapons and a MWD and go vs a longrang ship - from a respectable distance - 50-60 km perhaps?
The shortrange-MWD ship will totally******the longrange one. If it doesn't simply approach the LR ship, but uses some kind of curved route the LR ship will be able to make only very few hits before the SR ship is close to it. Then the SR-MWD will orbit the LR at close range, dealing heavy damage, while the LR guns cannot hit anything.
If the LR has a MWD, too, things will be different. Likely the LR will run out of cap earlier, though.
Of cource, there will be problems if you go with a SR-MWD ship against a SR-AB ship or with a LR MWD ship vs a LR-AB ship - but the SR-AB will be killed by a LR-MWD and the LR-AB will be killed by a SR-MWD.
We have some kind of paper-scissors-stone here.

And don't forget that drones have been boosted in damage. Wasp prepatch was 11 damage, now it's 18.
Currently training drones lvl5

.. That was the point of my post. Seems to be a bit more than 50% for a few drones.
