Since my last topic seems to have been hijacked by a spammer and thus locked...
Now that I understand that frigates do have long term viability, especially for PvP, what are some suggestions for income above and beyond what running level 2 missions will net, that can be accomplished with a character restricted to a frigate? I do like the idea of getting involved in PvP, however I feel I will need some form of steady income to facilitate the inevitable ship losses involved?
Thanks again for any input, and here's hoping that this topic stays clean so that I can get some back and forth communication ;) |

Other then missions, exploration comes to mind. Another option is of course trading. It doesnt require any ship as it can be done while staying docked and can net a great income (or terrible losses).
Edit: looked the other post. Doesnt say why it got locked, which is also odd as usually ISD does post their reasons to lock a thread. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Cash making opportunities?
Well, that depends on how you want to make ISK.
Exploration (Hacking) is done in CovOp frigates and can quite profitable, especially in null-sec. Frigates are used in FW, as FW complexes restrict the size of ships that can enter them. Frigates (especially Interceptors and CovOps) can be useful to haul small, valuable items. Frigates see plenty of use in PvP, although that rarely results in net cash gains. I've heard that Stealth Bombers are really good at ratting in null-sec. The Venture is good at gas mining, especially ninja gas mining in worm holes.
Other than that: Assault Frigates can easily do lvl 2 missions and almost all lvl 3 missions. You can even do many lvl 4 missions with them, but so slowly that it becomes inefficient. Doing lvl 4 missions in a battleship does pay better than any missioning with an assault frigate. But then, I personally prefer running missions with an assault frigate, even though it pays less. I only hop into a battleship if I really need to. (Hi there, epic arcs.)
Also, frigates (even T2 frigates) are quite cheap, so given that you don't spend that much ISK, you don't need to earn as much either. |

Thanks for the feedback guys, I will do some digging on the activities mentioned and see what appeals to me!
The idea of being a trading tycoon who spends his free time blowing things up sounds glamorous but I am not sure there is enough accountant in me to dig deep enough into the market to make it work lol. Anyhow, thanks again for the feedback! |

Another quick question... Should I be looking for a corporation, or should I stay in the NPC corp for a bit until I decide where I am going? Or, more appropriately, is there likely to be a corp worth joining which would benefit from whatever I could bring to their table?
I remember when I last played I tried joining a couple corporations but neither of the 2 I ended up in ever did anything nor was i ever asked to do anything, so I may as well have just stayed in the npc corp... |

My recollection is that you can do the pirate epic arcs in a frig class ship such as an af or an inty. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Pirate_Epic_Arcs I don't play, I just fourm warrior. |

I run level 3 missions in an Assault Frigate, a blaster-fit Harpy (Caldari). There is only one level 3 mission I can't handle, as it has a stasis tower and an energy neut tower. The larger ships just can't hit a small frigate very well, and the Assault Frigate does enough DPS to easily dispatch them.
The Sisters of EVE arc, Blood-Stained Stars, is also trivial in an Assault Frigate.
Bigger is not necessarily better! |

This is good to know, thanks! So are the amarrian assault ships up to this task as well, or should I look at diversifying instead of focusing on amarr ships (which was my initial intention)?
I can't wait to get home from work and get my space legs back! I have spent most of my free time today researching and have determined that my first real play session tonight should consist of finding the tutorial system to go back to basics and hopefully re-learn things which I have forgotten over the last 5 years or so! |

Piracy can be done in a frigate. I killed a mission runner in a Raven the other day with a Merlin. Last night I nearly killed a PVE Dominix with an Incursus, and would have finished the job if some random jackoff hadn't turned up in a Jaguar to whiteknight me. everevolutionaryfront.blogspot.com |

You have several great hulls to use right away:
- Anathema. For scouting, and for exploration. Exploration in deep lowsec or 0.0 can be very profitable
- Malediction and Crusader. Both great for PVP. The light missile Malediction is near uncatchable and kills lightly-tanked ratters easily, as it can chose any damage type. The crusader is hella fast, staying out of range of most small guns, hitting with scorch and awesome at tearing up other frigates.
- Purifier. EM bombs and torps are the best damage type for hunting many ratting ships. Also great for minmatar FW
- Vengeance. Very tanky AF. Probably the hardest tackle to break as they sig tank with great local reps that easily tank drones
- Imperial Navy Slicer can be one of the best faction frigates flown well, works similar to a crusader
- Sentinel. Find a small ship that needs cap to fire it's guns, and you win nearly every time. "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual, issued in the 1930 |

Faction war. You can do level 4's in an assault frigate and the preferred ship of choice is a stealth bomber. You can plex in a T1 frigate (in fact most people do). Plus, aside from stabby plex farmers, there is actual fun involved.
Unlike regular missions, the FW mission LP rewards are worthy, too. At tier 4, a L4 mission will net you 40-60k LP. Plus the standings gains are huge. No bounties or loot drops to speak of though. |

You can make money in PvP as a tackler. I know everyone says that, but really in gangs i'v flown in the tackle frigate gets an equal share of loot so frigates are (in the right gangs) no less profitable than most other subcap classes.
Focusing on anything will limit you in other ways, but if you like flying frigates there's plenty you can do. This is a difficult question to answer, as it is different from person to person. But in general being in a corporation does open up EVE more then staying solo. But on the other hand, there are also public events you can join which mean even as a NPC member you can join in with others.
So, join a corp, if you feel like joining a corp would benefit your fun achievement from playing a game.
Now, I can ramble a whole post up to character limit about corporation benefits etc. and how to find them. But I'm just a lazy person and luckily NightCrawler 85's great writing skills made a couple of guides, so I only have to link a couple of URLs.

Doing level 3s in a Vengeance is fun. Much more fun than most if not all battle cruisers.

Blasphemy, Blarpy wins that competition.
And it can do L4s too, be it very very very slow that it ain't effective anymore. Doesn't mean it is much more fun to do then sitting there in your BS or T3. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

This is a good point.
I run the SoE epic arc, when I remember that it's available again, in a regular T2 fit Kestrel It's all I need to get that particular set of missions completed. |
