Edited by: InColdBlood on 15/04/2006 12:50:53 Help me out please, this is for pve and im getting my butt kicked. Mainly i just dont seem to hit anything :-( Lvl 2 missions:
High: Med nos 4*regulated ion phase cannon (for the 4k range and 150 grid)
Med: 10 mv ab fixed parallel link capasitor web
Low: 800 nano 2*rcu med armor rep energized basic adaptive nano plate
whatever drones...
when they hit they can pop frigs fast but there are too many wasted shots so cap drain kills me. I am new, but i was under the impression blasters were king of close combat...seem to me they cant hit a spacestation even if they are parked inside :(
Whats wrong with this setup? Peps say they can afk missions in thorax, god im far from that!

Not sure if LVL 2 missions still only have frigates, but if thats the case, you are trying to hit frigate-sized targets with cruiser-sized guns - it just won't work unless, you get some painters on your target and a webifier or 2.
Try swapping those medium guns for 5 x small turrets. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Cascade ááááááááiss NAVY |

Level 2 missions have primarily frigate-based enemies, and your medium blasters, although good at tracking, are still missing the smaller targets more than they need to. For missions, I would actually suggest switching to small rails (150mm). You would be more effective then.

5 medium drones should chew up frigates quickly. For more tracking, try electron blasters or fitting tracking mods. With electrons you could lose an RCU or 2 for magnetic field stabilisers, and you would do much more damage.
Also, try getting a better web - what flavour are you using atm?

For small targets in a thorax you need to web the hell out of them. You also need good drone skills - 5 light drones will pop most frigates fairly quickly. I'd train up weapon upgrades and whatever other skills you need to get the grid usage down and drop an RCU or two for other tanking modules so you can withstand the frigates long enough to let the drones get in on them.
There's the odd cruiser opponent in level 2 missions so fitting small guns isn't really advisable unless you know it's only frigates.

I've been grinding lvl 2's on my alt in a Maller, I though it sucked until I fitted a target painter - it woks better then the web so I'd suggest you drop the cap recharger and fit a painter instead...
Also, use drones... ---

Just seems so sad to go with small guns on a cruiser :(
I will try a painter and see if that helps if not i guees i dont have a choise but to go with the samll guns.
seems to me the ion has better tracking than electron ?

tracking-wise: electron is 0.12, ion is 0.11 base
as for the unnamed web, you can make your enemies go less than half the speed by getting a named webifier. x5 is probably the best affordable option

i have heard of problems where warping has failed despite being fully lined up and going at full speed. If this happened, press f12 and go throguh the motions.
If you just failed to get lined up at speed, you lost your ship properly and there is no point petitioning

im not sure what you mean, but i know there was nothing around to block my warp. It sure took its sweet time to warp anyway (it said warping but didnt accelerate or anything nothing at all happened, it had aligned already so thats not it.) The warping stoped about 1/3 in and just stood there. Do i have a case?

Of course you do if its as you said... Try the petition, should work. Oh, and along the same lines, when fighting, steer clear of roids, they sure prevent you to get in warp when youre to close to them

Why use blasters on a thorax on lvl 2s?
Fit rails and pop from a distance.

...I remember doing lvl2 missions in a shield tanked rail thorax.
...but that was like almost 2 years ago when there were no bigger missions than lvl3 lol ----------------

I used to do lvl 2's in my blaster rax and the frigs went pop faster than I could push f4. The problem you are having with the blasterax is transversal. Don't target and push the orbit button, your transversal will be too high once your target is webbed. If you are farther than 7k from your webbed target push the approuch button, closer than 1.5k push the keep away button. Then Blasterax rips through targets if you follow this approuch.
You will need armour to do this though. You are going to take a lot of hits, if you can't tank well yet use rails and snipe your targets from a distance. Blasters are knife fighting and in such an engagment not for the faint of heart.
If you are going to use blasters here is some advice that if you don't take I garentee you will lose in Human Cattle part 4, take along some Iron charges maybe even just 100 rounds you will need the range.
T1 setup HI: 4x Modal Ion Blasters w/anti MED: AB, web, Cap recharger LOW: MAR,cap relay,2/3 rat hardners, dmg mod. I don't care for plate too slow and too big a sig radius after rmr.

OK. Here's how to set up your Thorax:
Highs: 5x 150mm railgun (Yes, those are small. Named preferred.)
Mids: Web, AB, Cap recharger
Lows: MAR II, two active hardeners, cap power relay, 1600mm plate (You can get along with a 800mm no problem though)
Notes: 1. Why small guns? Because they do plenty of damage, they have great tracking. 2. Why not blasters? Blasters are going to cause you headache in deadspace. Blasters are going to cause you pain when you are fighting frigates that like to stay at 7km range. Properly fitting and flying a blasterax takes a large amount of SP and an MWD. Yes, blasterax is fun. However, for the application, it is impractical as hell. 3. Get the skills for the MAR II, its worth it. 4. Dump the fitting mods. Complete waste of slots. Get active hardeners on there. If you don't have the skills to use active hardners, either fly a frigate for some level 2s until you have the skills or don't fly level 2s. It only takes a couple of days to get the skills.
I did every level 2 in Gallente space and every level 2 in Amarr space with a Thorax set up this way with... oh... around 800k SP in non-learning skills. Don't sneeze at it until you've tried it. It works. I had corpmates flying Thoraxes with medium guns and funky fitting mod setups laughing at me, and telling me that small guns would never do enough damage. Well, I've never lost a Thorax on a mission. They lost several, and then went on to lose several Brutixes to missions. Think before acting, and you will do well.
Good luck, mate!
Gotcha! I bet that got ya all hot under the collar, didn't it? |

Plate makes your ship less agile. Plate does not reduce your maximum speed.
However... plate does not increase your sig radius. Stop spreading these damn lies. Go look at the stat sheet for plate. You will see no sig radius penalty. Now to compare, go look at the stat sheets for a MWD and a shield extender. You will see a sig radius penalty!
