Extremely short range, damaging to friends\drones, huge cap burn and slow cycle times. Has there been any serious talking about denerfing these things? I'd love to have a new close range option personally speaking. Few ideas for the idea hopper.
First the obvious stuff ...
- boost range - decrease cap burn - put the "smart" into smart bombs ... allow pilots to not kill friendly ships\drones - skills to allow for more range, decrease cap burn, increase damage
Now the not so obvious ...
I thought of a neat idea about making a smartbomb ship more viable perhaps. Unfortunately it would have fairly far reaching consequences but the general idea is this. Tractor Beams. Allow for ships to install medium and large tractor beams that they can use in combat. Ship starting to get out of your range? Latch on a tractor or two or three and reel him back in. Obviously you'd need some major balancing for this so it wouldn't be over powered but reeling in a troublesome frigate outside of my nos\smartbomb range, drawing him into the mouth of my Typhoon and then eating him would make me smile. :)
The reason why I'm even talking about tractors here instead of just webbing, closing range and then hitting the bomb is that smartys are area effect weapons. If you can reel in a handful of drones or a ship or two you can use the area effect to its full potential. In other MMOs area effect weapons, when used properly, can be a great asset. I'd just like to see that carry over to here if possible. I think tractors could be used for some very interesting game play but I also realize there would be quite a few other issues popping up as well that would need to be addressed.
Anyways guys I'd like to hear thoughts on this.

If you dont like them dont use them. Personally I love them, great for killing tacklers and pods.

I realize that but 5k for the largest of them seems a bit short range. At least make it so that with skills you may be able to bump to 8-10k perhaps.

Its not to good against single targets but when there are multiply targets close together smartombs out damage T2 turrets and T2 missiles by a lot.

Because boosted smartbombs make it impossible for close range tacklers to function, period, at the cost of one highslot (right now you need to pay out for an officer smartbomb, which is fine since they're expensive and rare) and also makes missile and drone users cry.

Sounds like a win button for battleships vs. any close range ship, tbh. At least heavy nos simply nullifies an inty, rather than obliterating it. |

Large smartbombs are pretty cool, the officer ones are pretty powerful.
However, medium, small, micro-smartbombs are useless

especialy when beeing orbited at ~7.8km
they have wery short range now, i have to agree to that :D

I think the bassic attributes of Smart bombs are fine, however; I do agree there should be some skill to increase the range, a Mod to up the damage, and a skill decrease the cap usage. those 3 things would really improve the Smart Bomb fun and usefulness.

Range is good, leave that alone. Increase damage. 350hp per 11-12 seconds or so(cant remember) could be improved.

Yesterday I had about 20 drones on my raven, had a large named SB, but couldn't use it because I was too near a gate. Consequently my raven went pop prematurely. I think that should be fixed.

Lets see caldari verses a smartbombing ship = useless missiles.
Improving missiles by your way would pretty much finish off most missile users jest set up 2-3 smartbombs exploding at pre set times and you can intercept 75-100% of all missiles and drones that come in, so no leave smawrtbombs as they are this type of change would just unballance eve against caldari.

When I bought my first punisher.I asked at the help channel that what could be fitted at the fouth highslot beside turrets.Someone told me to try a smartbomb.But i found it impossible for a frigate to hold it.& After I blown up with out of energy I left the fouth highslot empty
