actually in combat or just see one? How fierce are they compared to 2 battleships?

Are you do mean the Nyx (Tier2 Carrier aka. Mothership)
and not the Thanatos (Tier1 Carrier... aka. Normal Carrier :P) don't you? Otherwise your silly :D

Capships especially carrier types aren't primarily combat ships like Bs's there logistic support ships so you can't really draw a direct comparison, you wouldn't take a carrier out on its own where as you would with a BS

BoB got given a wyvern, but i don't know what came of any other motherships in construction (ec-p?)

Carriers usually hug a pos and give e.g. interceptor pilots control over their fighters to attack enemy BS.
Typically used, when you camp a system / guard the gates with your alliance, while your dreads attack a POS or a conquerable station.
This seems to be the standard use of carriers in pvp. Ok, maybe just the only one that I have seen so far.

Ushra'khan has had two encounters with the Nyx referred to above.
It has the ability to cancel the warp out command of all who gaze at its beauty.

http://project90.aenonimity.com/eve/nyx10.jpg shows our Nyx and Chimera in combat against another Carrier. We have fraps footage, including the fight that Maggot mentioned above, but are waiting for a few more decent scraps to be caught before releasing any.

I would imagine a Nyx is a ****load better than 2 battleships...
