As per topic, how do you get large laser beam turrets to hit anything? I think I have the relevant gunnery skils to 4, and a tracking cpu seems to help, but under 30km frigates seem fairly invulnerable. Cruisers are iffy around 20km.
Am I overlooking something? Or do I just equip Heavy Nos and forget about it?

Your joking right? Perhapse you should do some research on target transversal velocity vs gun tracking speed an gun sig radius vs target sig radius ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

Edited by: B0rn2KiLL on 15/04/2006 18:22:46 **** skills here but
my geddon hits well @ 110 km with a mild tank, could do better if i go all snipe and no tank. dont expect to hit anything under 25km tbh. use drones, large turrets snipe and need range, close range ammo is good aslong as target isnt closing in fast, otherwise ull hit target once, maybe twice but it will get under ur range quickly if its an inty\30k frig.
i use this amarr noobi geddon:
6x Tachyon I + 1 med smart bomb
1 sensor booster, trackcomp II, painter II
2x rcu, 1x cpu, 3x dmg mods, large armor rep, cap relay
does well for belts if you warp in at 60-80km, looting is ofcourse a problem.
if you have missions in mind, an apoc with megabeams is ofcourse ur solution, mega beams are large short range weapons, faster rate of fire and better tracking than tachies. put them on an apoc with a large armor tank.
could most probably fit 7 megabeams with ease if you have the relevant skills, meds shold have 100mn AB, 2x track comps, 1 webber/ replace webber + 100mn with sensor booster + painter if its not dead space.
heavily armor tank the apoc, 2 large accom\t2 + 3 hardeners + cap relays to sustain the tank.
pack 5 hammerheads and as many warriors as u can scram into it.
im sure ill get flamed for this noobish post but meh hope i've been helpful, good luck. --- When It Absolutely Positively Has To Be Desotroyed. |

I understand the tracking guide. The real question is what the best way is to maximize hit % at closer ranges..painters? CPUs? All of the above?

please dont try to hit a frig with a megabeam at close range. either fit small lasers or let your drones kill all the frigs. you might be able to get away with using medium pulse lasers and a webber or 2 though.
Or for anti-laser you could just use a big mirror shaped like a satellite dish to reflect it back. And think, if someone hit you with rails/projectiles, they'd have 11 years of bad luck or whatever |

close range requiers c;pse range weapons, ie, megabeams. tracking computer + painter makes it a bit easier, but if the npc gets past your optimal, you'd start hitting it less and less, even if you get your buddies to 10x paint a frigate, if its lets say, within 10km of you, and your using large guns, you wont hit it, even if it was as big as a titan, unless you have short range weapons. --- When It Absolutely Positively Has To Be Desotroyed. |

Yeah, I've put some small pulse guns on. # of them combuned do about the same damage as one large turret. (My drone-fu is weak.)
I wasn't trying to get the large turrets to hit at 500m or anything, I just thought that something like 15km ought to be possible.

Drones. All battleships have dronebays because you're just not going to hit the small stuff once you let it get too close. __________________________________________________

frig killer = nos drones, fit one heavy nos and let your drones do the rest
don't even waste a cycle trying to shoot them with you mega pulse, its a waste of time. cruisers with the proper transversal you'll hit them unless they are under 5-6km

kill things before they get under 30km, or use megapulse.

i cant believe im the first person to say this...
solution = stasis webifier/s
i have no problem hitting cruisers / frigs with TACHYONS (you read correctly, even slower tracking than megabeams) at 5km. with only one web its even easy to hit cruisers at this range.
Implants and skills ftw ;) |

Switch from megabeams to megapulses, fit a web, fit a nos, and make sure you have a full rack of drones.
Problem solved. -Wrayeth
