I just moved into a new place that had a pre existing DSL modem hooked directly to the main computer. For me to connect to the internet I had to install my wireless router after the modem and network both computers, the first being w/ a cable and mine with the wireless connection.
Now, I get disconnected every 30 sec. I'm not lying. I can't stay on long enough for an interceptor to approach a gate from 15km w/o loosing connection. This same problem happened back with an old roommate in a differant apartment, where he was on the wireless connection and couldn't stay connected.
Anyone know how to fix this? I've cleared my caches but I still cannot stay connected.
It's a Linksys BEFW11S4 v4 router with a Speedstreem 5360 dsl modem.

I use a Netgear wireless router. Not sure of the model, I'm not at home.
Anyway, I don't have any problems playing Eve using it.

I've been playing eve with a wireless router for over 2 years now. It is an SMC Wireless Barricade G router. Old.. I hear the new ones are really good. (108 mbps)

I've been getting dropped now and then since switching to the wireless. Eve could do with upping the timeout value by a little.

Using a linksys WRT54G, no probs here either.
Often wireless connection issues are caused by interference, or poor signal/link quality. Run Netstumbler Linkage for a bit and check to see if the signal is constant. Also worth doing a scan to see if there are any other networks nearby. May be worth manually changing the AP/router's wireless channel. Try opposite ends of the channels 1 or 14, 2 or 13 etc
Things that cause intereference in WiFi networks. Cordless DECT phones, Wireless Digital Videosenders, etc
It may also help changing the position of the router, while monitoring the signal with netstumbler.
And lastly but less desirable, try with and without WPA or other encryptions, try locking down the router to the 802.11b standard (11mbs) or even lower.
They are just a few pointers, but let us know how you get on.

The BEFW11s4 Linksys router has been plagued with random issues (Hence why there's been 4 spinoffs of the same model alread). It's pretty much the red-headed stepchild of the bunch.
Are you wired into the router or wireless? If wireless have you tried wired? If wired have you tried another ethernet cable and/or port on the router?
If so, try flashing the firmware on the router and see if it improves the behaviour.

I use a Netgear RangeMAX router to go through 2 floors of an electronically active house. No problems here at all, barring the occasional network burp (and that affects my total connection, not just EVE.) ---

No issues here.
Using an "origo" cheapy wireless router/modem and an orinoco silver wifi card connected to my laptop and then using ICS on the laptop to connect via crossover to my main desktop machine.
Works fine :D no hiccups at all. :D ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people Eve & Linux Woot! |

I use a Netgear wireless router with no problem.
You might have signal issues. Try moving the router closer to your computer maybe? I know I get the occasional drop, but it usually doesn't last long enough for EVE to kick me out. I get disconnected about once or twice a week tops.

router to computer is about 10 feet. Through only one wall. That should not effect it. And it's only with eve. Nothing else is problematic. AIM never looses connection, interenet is always able to refresh and connect pages...

I've got an ASUS WL500g. Great hardware, terrible firmware. Fortunately the code's open source and you can get some great 3rd party firmware.
Never had an issue with it since I got said 3rd party firmware.

I had sort of similar problem. Disconnect time would vary, but it happened all of a sudden rather than because of any changes. I had made none.
I have no problems anymore (as stated above), after declaring my laptop a DMZ. I would have used port mapping/forwarding but just couldnt be arsed, ended up shoving a firewall on my lappy and setting it as a DMZ.
Do a netstat -b and find out the ports eve is using. Then open them on your router. May work, it certainly solved my issues with disconnection. ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people Eve & Linux Woot! |

this sounds familar. I've done something like this before. But how do I open the ports to the eve ip? And the DMZ setup portion is only to specify the last digits of the ip address. I know alot about computers, but I'm an idiot to printers and networks.

ok..after all this trouble i figured it out.
It was the firmware.
So if anyone else is having difficulty staying connected, I suggest upgrading the firmware.
I can't believe it was something so simple. I'm going to shot myself in the foot now.
