I work at a video store and me and my boss play EVE. Well today we ran across a very intresting movie: Moon 44. Here's the PLOT, tell me if this sounds familiar.
Touched by his noodly appendage.

The only similarities in the entire plot appear to be "multinational corporations" and "in the future."
The Matrix has more in common with Star Wars.

It's generally accepted that EvE was inspired (like almost all modern space trading games) by the excellent game Elite (which you can pick up for free, legally, off the internet in many formats including PC).
Elite was an amazing game for its time. My Step Dad, my Dad and I all used to play it for many hours every day. There were other space traders but never any that captured the masses quite like Elite. -----

Did you even read, like, the first two sentences? Their fighting over minerals and moons. Tell me that doesn't sound like EVE.

Or asteroids that absorb sunlight, which they turn into minerals which one can mine at a certain time every day, thus growing?

I believe in "Ye Olden days" (we're talking some time before release here) one of the devs said that Babylon 5 was a big inspiration. Pretty safe to say they didn't just rip it off though .. . ----- Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

The matrix has more in common with GITS. Hell they made the entire staff watch the GITS movie before making the first movie. Proof is the watermelon scene, and where they plug into the matrix on their bodies. Nothing wrong with this of course, because they fully admited it :) ------------------

I remember seeing "Moon 44" over a decade ago, never clicked as simular to me
They (corps) used convicts flying helicopters on a moon to fight robotic invaders
Other then the forum moderators molesting young men, I donĘt see any similarities
... you will see more and more marketing which in turn will bring you more players to torture. |

"When all earth's natural resources are gone, huge multinational corporations wage war to defend mineral deposits on various mining planets. Moon 44 is key to one corporation's bid for a very hostile takeover. Convicts pilot helicopters in the planet's nasty atmosphere navigated by computer whiz kids. One of the pilots, Stone, is not a convict, though. Stone is an internal affairs agent sent to catch a traitor that is hijacking mining shuttles. Strong resemblence to "Aliens" production design sports tolerable effects, strange mix of action and teen comedy genres."
that sounds fimiliar to me. Cigs McDuff Director, McDuff Industries Ltd. [MDIL]

I actually got this word from quite a while ago. And I mean *YEARS*.
When I was in elementary school a loonnnnggggg time ago, I had this tutor for Algebra. I don't remember much else about him, but I remember that whenever I answered a word problem with a number without units (for example: 2 pencils plus 3 pencils is 5 PENCILS, not just 5), he would say "5 what? 5 kumquats?" I never forgot it

C'mon, trying to come up with something completely original just isn't going to happen. There will always be similarities to things done before. Actually that's true even if you haven't even seen/heard of the stuff that was before - like I was juggling fantasy story ideas in my head at one time. Seemed like every time I came up with something that seemed new and cool, the next fantasy book I picked up at the library and read had implemented it already

Yeah I got that impression too when I read it. Can't think of any others off the top of my head but the whole 'New Eden' thing is very reminiscent of the Edenists etc. Also, there are lots of players with names from these books as well. I keep coming across 900 different spellings of Alkad Mzu in local.
