Other than their planets the game sucked. To this day, the EnB planets KICK EVE's ASS... I already posted a thread about this in the dev forum. CCP can easily fix my one and only EVE complaint with this Trinity graphics engine update. :) ------------------

I enjoyed EnB for the time I played it - it was nice in a cartoony kind of way. But they had their chance and blew it IMO. I can't really see how they'd be able to recreate the game into something that'd tempt me away from Eve.

In the very, very unlikley event that the game comes back, I propose we all form a corp (or whatever they are in Enb) and greif everybody from the game.

Earth and Beyond had one thing that no other MMORPG in history had been able to do.
It made mining fun.
That alone demonstrates the mark of a true genius game developer.

Much more variety in ores, random events when mining, and actual danger. For extreme fun, head to Xipe Totec (beyond the Intzalan Line) with a Jenquai Explorer. Make sure you're below combat level 15--that will make the level 40-50 enemies that much more dangerous when they start chasing you.

Once you were level 150, it wasn't really all that interesting. In fact, there wasn't much at all for a level 150 JE to do! --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Solution: Don't be level 150.
(Thank god it was much harder to hit level 150 than it was to hit level 60 in World of Warcraft... it took a year, rather than 1 week)
The lack of high-end content was simply because EA cut Westwood's budget long before they could make it. It was fine for the first 6-12 months, as few people were that high level. But it eventually dragged the game down.

I have yet to try EnB when they re-releash it. The last time I saw the ad when I was in junior highschool (which is a sneak peek preview from Westwood RPG game which I forgot the name!). ---------

You are correct. Level 1-50 content in EnB was unmatched by anything I have seen so far. The newbie quests were simply amazing, unparalled by any other MMORPG newbie quests I have seen. Even WoW's newbie quests paled in comparison. When I first entered the game as a Progen Explorer, the quest quality seemed to match single player quality, while being a multiplayer game. Granted, the amount of content deteriorated as you leveled, but that is primarily due to EA's lack of faith in the game (They released an official statemenet after the shutdown of the game saying that the real reason EnB failed because of lack of interest in space based MMORPG's. One look at EvE disproves that statement), and they did not bother improving the game that much. One of the most devastating blows to the game was EA's decision to turn an interesting and mysterious space game into a fantasy game with flying fish set in space.

PVP was added as an afterthought.
When the game launched, there was no PVP.
Eve was more about getting uber gear for your guildies, the PVP was killing the mobs faster than the other guilds.

Jim Staldeman shot down the prospect of anyone else being able to ressurrect E&B in that letter. I remember on leaving many wanted to continue the MMO, but tbh I highly doubt EA will give E&B's code, licencing or anything to hardcore fans and enhusiasts - its just worth too much after so many years of development and investment. Unless you are prepared to offer them a 7 figure sum and your soul, they wont sell you their code.
Even if they were to bring E&B back inhouse it wouldn't be able to dominate the space MMOG scene, EVE is mighty and sits comfortably at the head of this genre so EA wouldn't even bother unless they were willing to invest 5+ years developing a new space MMO to seriously compete.
Even if they did release E&B 2, I wouldn't play it because I know full well that the guys at the top of EA don't love thier games like CCP does. EVE is CCP's baby, E&B 2 would be just another disposable title for EA.
EA would probably pull the plug after a year anyway and force their devs to work on The Sims: 'Lets buy some more Ice Cream 9' or Battlefield 2: 'Mega Super Dooper Trooper Force' Expansion.
Don't be fooled by any reply an EA rep gives. Electronic Arts only sees %'s and $'s, they couldn't care less about the fans, devs or games. Even if a game makes profit they don't care, its the amount of profit it makes is whether they decide to keep it or not.
As for their execs and the guys the make these decisions, tbh I think thier only real concern is what colour thier next Ferrari will be.

Oh man! YAY.
I loved the game, but it died :( However, I doubt very much EA will ever beat CCP in dedication. If it comes out I will try it and see if they screwd it up somehow. I honestly was only dissapointed in the fact that we had to shoot jelly fish and stuff.

Microsoft is often thought to be just as evil if not more so than Electronic Arts.
Yet even Microsoft open-sourced Allegiance, their MMORPG, when it failed in the market.
You can now play it at FreeAllegiance.org.
EA actually offered to sell the E&B source + servers for a mere 2 million not long ago.

Oops I meant to say mining competition.
Thats right in enb pvp you are locked into a small arena and try to outmine your opponent.

Never.
I don't know why they don't give out the client/server code. It's not like it's doing anything right now, unless you consider collecting dust doing something.
They would have nothing to lose.
Oh well, too bad.

Hmm...what is this "Jenquai" you speak of? I had an old guildie from SWG who's name was "Jenquaidefender" and I had known he had played ENB upto the closure of the servers. Is that a race or an area of space?
For the record, I will be sticking with EVE even after the launch of StarTrekOnline. ;)

OMG Allegiance, that brings back the memories.
Loved hoping into the gun turrets of the capital ships and zooming in to blow away the smaller ships (can't remember what they are even called anymore).
Oh man and the hectic chat and comms when bombers come in to smack your stations.
I liked how the sensors and scanning worked in that. You could take a covert ship and sneak around withouth anyone noticing you, but if one of your mates in a not-so-covert ship got close to you, you both were lit up like a sore thumb.

E&B was my first paid MMO. It was great fun for me tillI got to about lvl 120 or so. then it started to drag. mainly becuase there was no new content, no new additions to the game and so on.
I loved that game, but EA didn't love it.
If they made an E&B 2 I'd check it out for sure.
Hell, E&B was what got me interested in the EVE beta.
MMO's come and go I'm afraid. Eventually you just grow out of their content and the only thing you can do is start hateing the game, or leave it with fond memories.
I still have MANY fond memories of E&B, but looking at a few of the screen shots, it seems so cartoony now.. if they brought it back, I might get a subscription to play while the Eve Servers are down each morning, but that's about it.

Interesting topic, I for one played ENB while it was out, and for the people who say there was no high end content... You obviously never made it out of your newbie zones, or was not invited to go to one of the many raids. I have maxed out characters in FFXI,EQ2,COH,Ragnarok, and more. Although fun at times none of them compared to the highend content of ENB(except maybe FFXI purely for the story).
The so called "raids" games have these days would not even be called raids in ENB. They were more like fleet battles but vs bad ass npc's. To me and everyone that really knew the game, all that game had was highend content. Who plays a game to lvl up? The real test of the game is at max lvl, and always has been, unless u want to lvl up forever, but thats like staying in empire forever. It wasnt a mining game, and it wasnt a pvp game, those were just things ppl did to waste time between raids(except that one guy on the server who mined all the time: ).
I think as people get more tired of playing Elf games, EA may realize this and decide to bring ENB back. I sure hope they do, I wouldnt mind having a ship i can actually fly again, and actually feel like im in combat.(not that i dont like EVE's pvp)
ENB OR DIE TRYING!

Yeah operion, the high end in that game was sweet. It was good enough to keep you busy for a long time, cuz there was always the next big bad gear to get for your class. And the community was so good, because we literally did things as a server. All the big high raids required server help to beat, and that coupled with market channel, made an extremely close community. Ive yet to see such a good community since then.
Lets hope it comes back!
