Howdy, I'm Draleth!
I returned to EVE after many years absence when I heard about an upstart group named Brave Newbies Inc. having fun, re-subscribing at the beginning of last year. Initially I wanted to command fleets, but I quickly leared that my talents lay in the more conversational aspects of PVP. After Brave Newbies' previous diplomat had left, I was volunteered, and now I'm alliance director of diplomatic relations for the Brave Collective alliance.
Through this I've lead fleets to resuce our dear leader who collapsed his wormhole 40 jumps into null sec; experienced the siege of Ussad; moved with thousands of EVE players across the galaxy as we first outgrew Hek, then Rahadalon; and helped negotiate peaceful victories and turn former enemies into friends. Well, mostly just less shooty acquaintances.
Today I would like to announce my candidacy with a platform with a foundation of encourating fun:
- New Player Experience. EVE Online has a bit of a reputation for its steep learning curve. Anything that can be done to improve this will lead to a more enjoyable and immersive experience for all.
- High-Security War Mechanics. The current behaviour is exploited and used by larger fish to utterly destroy smaller fish. Like the learning curve, being hell camped is not a fund experience for new players.
- Sovereignty Grind. The least accessible gameplay mechanic for new players. Additionally, you shouldn't have to lose a large portion of your member base to atrophy or burn-out along the way.
- EVE Online API & IT Support An outlier here and a generally under-appreciated aspect of the game are all of the many out-of-game tools we use to make day to day operations work. And there's a lot of love that could be given to this area of the game.
With that I will step down from this soap box; the details will be examined as time progresses. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and feel free to offer your support.
7o and fly bravely, GÇö Draleth |

Love you BNI dudes so pleased to see some of you stepping up to the plate 7o
My question is this; what do you feel differentiates yourself from the other BNI candidate Matias both in terms of personal qualities and in what you feel you stand as as a candidate? www.crossingzebras.com |

Draleth's combination of the classic BNI passion for new players and a knack for the more intricate parts of IT and diplomacy is unique in New Eden. Hearing that he'll be running along side Matias is great - I think it's a wonderful compliment to his strengths and weaknesses, rather than a duplicate candidate in the same niche. Can't shoot blues if you don't have any. Long Live NPSI. |

Whilst you may be correct Jayne it would be nice to hear an answer from Draleth rather than a proxy. www.crossingzebras.com |

Here begins my far-too-long delayed response to everyone's questions! Prepare yourself for a wall of text.
Xander Phoena wrote:Love you BNI dudes so pleased to see some of you stepping up to the plate 7o Hey, thanks! Both Matias and I are extremely excited to see what we can bring to the mighty NDA'd table.
Xander Phoena wrote:My question is this; what do you feel differentiates yourself from the other BNI candidate Matias both in terms of personal qualities and in what you feel you stand as as a candidate? As I mentioned in my Capstable Podcast interview, I feel Matias is a big-picture kind of guy, whereas (due to my IRL occuption) I am a highly detail-oriented. We each also bring somewhat different perspectives; we're both newbies, but he founded BNI and has the full leadership perspective, while I have the back-end IT experience to draw upon as a specialty.
Kai Aumer wrote:What are your thoughts on sov mechanics? (7o btw) 7o good sir! Up to our deployment my experience with soverignty has been the many videos and blog posts written about it, as well as input and stories from members of BRAVE who have had experience in this realm of the game. BRAVE are only beginning to get their feet wet in this process through HERO Coalition's recent grab of space, and a sub-cap fleet being able to tear down an SBU in 11 minutes is something that seems to have been unheard-of.
Most of the arguments I've heard relating to sov. are about the slow, painful process of disputing, claiming, and subsequently holding the space. HERO benefited today from an existing alliance disbanding suddenly thus I'm sure this introductory experience is only the beginning of a process that is likely to slow down as time progresses. Or speed up; we'll just have to see!
Coffee Rocks wrote:You don't hate bourbon and freedom, do you? Unofficial sponsor of BRAVE: Maker's Mark Bourbon. ;P
I was also interviewed on Podside where the issue of my lack of replies was brought up. As stated there I'll endeavour to continue to monitor this thread (added to my morning tabset) and answer questions more promptly in the future.

What do you think about improving the tutorials? I think they really need a revamp to teach players how eve really is, not a fictional "space wow". A lesson how to get past a gate camp with a civilain cloaking device, other tools needed to survive like dscan tutorials. lets have them mine something while wtaching dscan and when the combat probes appear have the newbie warp out. hows that for a great tutorial?
I think if we made the tutorials better, taught players the real culture of eve and prepared them better in the tutorials for what they would face in game, what to actually expect from eve instead of preparing them to play space wow and then "unlucky scrub!"?, player retention rates would be better and so would the new player experience. Would you agree and would you support a push to revamp tutorials to make them more useful/ more pvp focused? Erotica 1: "I would create a massive pyramid scheme in Eve to show you what it is, but I'm an honest business person, so you'll just have to find education elsewhere. Start with the wiki link that was linked by a person who didn't even read what he linked." Theres a reason I play eve XD |

Awesome, the forums ate my first attempt at this post. Any CSM candidate who's willing to prioritize fixing this dumpster fire masquerading as forum software is going straight to the top of my ticket.
Anyway.. --- I'm curious about the second point in your platform, regarding highsec wardecs. On the one hand, I've been on the recieving end of them in an overmatchd, noob-heavy corp and I know how frustrating they can be. On the other hand, there are already any number of ways to deal with wardecs (shifitng operations, reshipping to inexpensive and/or PVP capable ships, using alts to get in and out of trade hubs, recruiting allies, dropping corp, etc). Bad corps--which in my experience are by far the majority in highsec--are already not using these tools, so I'm not sure how adding new tools would benefit them, unless they made non-mutual wardecs so onerous that it simply wasn't worth declaring against them. If CCP gave you carte blanche to rewrite the wardec mechanics, what would you do to help new players without hamstringing highsec wardecs entirely? |
