My Eve is now totally unplayable as I can't read any of the writing on screen and the Texel adjusters on the graphics options has disappeared. This is with an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 video card.

Go to your eve-folder. There should be a file prefs.ini in the cache subdirectory. Search for the line texelalign=xxxx, and change it, or insert if not present. You may need to experiment a bit(values between 0.0 and 1), but that should do it, i hope (was the way to fix it in the past).

Why can't CCP stop f****** about with things that aren't broken, and just sort out the things that are. I have added this texelalign to my prefs.ini and tried values 0f 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and 1.0 and I can't see any difference to the text on screen it is still almost completely unreadable.

Try downloading the latest drivers, if you have not already.... And I think it's called texalign, not texelalign

I had the same problem and it was because I had installed new drivers and the D3D mipmap detail level was too low, try turning that up. Also, stay away from the latest Catalyst drivers as they cause more harm then good; i would also try turning off AA for now as well.

Open the ATI control Panel. Goto D3D settings there. Go on Compatibility and deselect the "Change pixel center" (something like that). Worked fine here , got a Radeon 9800 pro

A screenshot of the garbled text would be of great help.
We are running EVE on Radeon 9700 Pro 128 here at CCP using driver version 6.14.10.6378.

well im usin an ati radeon 7500 mobility. Tried to change texel alignment but this didnt help a thing. Text keeps blurry. PLZ put the slider back.

okay i found a fix that work's for me. if you have an ATI graphics card and added the texelalign command back into your prefs.ini remove it. goto your graphics card's direct 3d settings, click compatibility settings and change alternate pixel center to disabled. for me with the texelalign command still in prefs.ini it didnt want to effect the text in the game unlike how it used to.

boy, almost year later and the isue still exists:
after a lot of googeling I figured out that I had to Downgrade the Nvidia drivers to make Eve playable :(

Looks to me like you have Antialiasing forced on.
It makes the text fuzzy if it's set on in your driver preferences.
That plus a texel alignment issue would make the text really bad.

looks to me like you just set all the settings to max speed rather than quality... there is one in particular to do with textures I think...
I'm talking about graphics card settings btw

Its not anti aliasing i forced it off
 i got the same problem with my Geforce 5900xt

In your nVidia drivers, under "Performance & Quality Settings", set the attribute "Image settings" to "Quality" or "High Quality".
What you get is that the graphics card is trying to use lower level mip maps.
