For those of you who don't know Icelandic and wouldn't recognise it if it targetted you at 200km and fired volley after volley of lightning fast sabertooths at you, here is the Icelandic definition of "Balancing"
Main Entry: balance Function: verb Inflected Form(s): balÀanced; balÀancÀing Date: 2003 somewhere in an office in Iceland transitive senses 1) to arrange so that one set of elements exactly equals another <balance a mathematical equation> and then ignore them so completely that using any other weapon than a Tachyon Beam would immediately have you impounded in an lunatic asylum and laughed at by myriad hairy nurses called Shirley or Betty.
We were told this patch would sacrifice content in order to finally give pilots a decent balance in weaponry setups. We all hoped this would remove the "uber setup" situation.
Oh, pity us hopeful fools.

Uhm, oh no ! you're being shot at with missiles that have short range from 200km....?
And because they are lightning fast they blow up 'quickly' 150km away from you?

What's wrong?
thought you were involved in the testing on chaos? I am probably mistaken though.

The post isn't about missiles.
It's about Tachyons being incredibly overpowered.

Tachyons are the weapon of choice it seems. 10 secs to take downs a ravens shields is a joke though.

No doubt we'll get the old "but they use so much cap/powergrid" line.
Bullcrap.
Before you're seriously out of cap you've killed the ship.
300dmg average and 800 wrecking?
My projectiles don't even get wrecking of 300.
The damage mod stacking has fallen on its arse too - every other gun is so weak and useless that you NEED to fill your low slots with dmg mods, regardless of the small gains, to try and even compete with tachyons.

Er...one thing, Joshua:
I got 600-700 wreckings with 1200mm yesterday regularly before the patch. I haven't taken the Tempest out for a spin yet till the reports of death and destruction die down. But I'm loading 1400mms and an extra 1200 (to replace the now useless 800mm for PvE) as we speak.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann

Have you even toyed around with them or do you just believe what Jim Raynor says? I never saw you on the chaos server this past month while testing was going on. Tachyons were nerfed, not made better. Their falloff was cut in half, their tracking is much worse now and they use about 5% more cap per damage over time than they did previously. Yes they have a higher damage multiplier but their RoF was adjusted to compensate. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

I was getting 600 wrecking with my 800mm's at upto 20km yesterday.
I got a wrecking 220 today at 4km.
Every other shot was under 100.
How much megacyte do 1400/1200mm's require again?
Might have to dip into my 2nd battleship stock.........

None of that matters. They are by far the best weapons. Even with hardners they hit for 200dmg and thats still quite hard. Any delay/lag and ur shields will be down before you know whats happining.

Tachyons do more damage to shields than armor and hull, that is why the damage is doing more at the beginning of a fight.
At least, that is how its SPOSED to be

Well there's your problem. 800mm are now Autocannons with an optimal range of 3km

2.4km optimal actually.
In a battleship that's bordering on "intimate".

I'd be too embarrassed to reveal my damage logs for 800mm's considering my mostly level 4 gunnery skills.
I've given up caring about Tachyons anyway.
I'll just use them too.
Pity the promised "balance" wasn't followed through though.

Yeh but considering my bs main defence is in its shields my armour/hull wont last long. Tacheons are to strong. I would personaly like to see a reductions of 25-40 dmg. But untill next patch i will just swap ship and use them to

Edited by: Ana Khouri on 17/09/2003 18:10:20 I you hit them. Guess what, large guns really really suck hitting something which is moving with 2 km/s.
Tried that setup against a tachyon apoc - he was able to make a little over 300 shield damage before I closed the 40 km distance (and -zero damage afterwards).
The key with this tactics is not to simply approach your target (because you won't *move* for it's guns then and be a sitting duck), but to move to a point ~ 1/4 screen left (or right,...) to them. Large guns will *not* be able to track you.

Little over 300dmg. You sure u can count, and anyway I will be putting a varaity of guns on my apoc. Thus as i will still kill u fast. As i said in the last post.
I wish more ppl would do this.

Sure, use a varity of guns with your apoc. And be raped by my specialised outfit, because it will do 3-5 times as much damage as your 2-3 shortrange guns.
Want to test it? I'm just yours on chaos.

To still be crying about tachs, even after the nerfing they got.. is pathetic. Youre one of those poeple that can't see past the individual hit.. and focus on what keeps the Tacheyon from being the uber death ray of doom you want people to think it is.
OK.. true tacheyons got an increase in base damage mod.. woo hoo. They also got an increase in fitting costs (highest in game now), halved tracking, increased ROF, lost more than 10km of effective range, and a mind boggling 120 cap per shot to use. Not to mention that theyre the easiest to harden against, and do the absolute worst damage to armor of any ammo type.
Give it a rest.. Tachs are a lost cause without an apoc, and very high gunnery and engineering skills (which is what the devs seemed to want to accomplish.. which is fine). If you want to talk about uber.. lets talk about projectiles and missles...

If you complain about the tach then please see at all attributes, and how they interact with each other.
- cap per damage ratio is only 5% higher than with the old tachyon (so much for the 120 cap/shot) - damage per time ratio is 27% higher than the old tach (so much for the ROF) - hybrid weapons have only 2 fixed damage types as well (so much for the easiest to defend against)
