Hello,
First time trying Eve for the last week. I am on the 14 day trial and was all set on a subscription until something happened. I invested a ton of time (for me) into my venture to try and get started. I decided to dabble in .2 in order to find better ore to make all these runs more profitable as it was just taking forever with scordite and veldspar. I had all sorts of apprehension doing this so I got my ship to what I thought was capable enough acording to all the you tube videos I have been watching. Anyway, I warp into the stargate in a .2 system going to another .2 and all the sentry guns blew me up to pieces and then destroyed my pod. A little caption the screen said I was wanted for crimes, etc. This makes no sense whatsoever since I have never shot at anyone. Is there something I have done wrong? I thought it had to be a gang of other players at first but it was those guns around the stargate and I am innocent! All that hard work and time for nothing!
Any ideas? I really want to like this game but so far I am not impressed. |

Sentry guns will not destroy your pod.
Open your character sheet, click on combat log, then choose 'show losses' from the dropdown. You will see your ship losses there, and when you double click you should see what/who killed your ship and your pod. My guess is that you jumped into a gatecamp and that the message was not directed at you but instead at the people shooting you. |

Yep I just did a search on your name on battleclinic and it looks like you were pwnt by a fleet of gatecampers from the shadow cartel alliance. |

A. Sentry Guns don't randomly shoot you unless you broke the "law" and got suspect / criminal flag. B. Sentry Guns (nor any other NPC) will pod you.
Deducing from this, you encountered a gate camp in low-sec that killed you
EDIT:
Just looked at ZB
It was NOT the gate guns, as we suspected you ran into a Tusker / SC gatecamp in Ostingele.
Go to your character sheet > Combat log
Then select the "Show Losses" from the drop down and double click the loss and it will show you that it was players and not gate guns that killed you.
EDIT 2:
It was low-sec, thus more hostile and you should be prepared to lose your ship even more then in high-sec. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

So you are either trolling or you did something that merrited a pop up to ask if you wanted to carry on with the next action as it will cause suspect status. However, looking at your killboard you got popped and podded by Shadow Cartel and had nothing on your ship that would cause that message...so... Now, I am old and my memory is not the best, but I seem to remember when my corp was living in w-space that one of our members went AFK in a low grade site and got his ship exploded and pod popped by the sleepers. Again my memory could be faulty here...
As for the popup, when anyone aggresses another player in empire space, that message does pop up for other people, it just says that players name and not yours. The OP probably did not read the entire message and mistakenly thought it was directed at him. |

See, that's something I have heard before... I may have to get a corp member to try it at somepoint without external interference.
As for that notification, is it possible to turn them off by mistake because I have never had the 'so and so became a criminal/suspect' in lowsec before. So that ones new to me... Yup same and I no way agressed a pod and jumped the hisec gate with a timer before...Then I got a notification, amongst other things.
I get the 'warp scramble attempt from X to X' notification in Lowsec, but as far as I remember, I have never had the 'You are wanted for crimes against the state, leave now or be destroyed' in lowsec because thats only when you have really low sec status or really ****** standings with an empire faction (or so I thought). Damn we need someone who knows!!!

Haha you could be right, but for the life of me I cant ever remember that message popping up in anywhere other that hisec. But I know what you mean.
I would go to lowsec right now and try it out, but I'm nowhere near an Eve client, so I'm not much use... Think you guys are refering to the messages when you are in high-sec and someone with low faction standing is jumping into system.
Something in the line of:
"Insert player name" you are not welcome in "insert faction name" space. Be prepared to be hunted or something like that.
Keep in mind, this is in HIGH sec only as even the faction navy is too scared to go into low-sec to protect the claim they have on that system....
In low-sec, you will only get notifications on "on grid" Ewar attempts and your gun notifications. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Cheers for that one. Read a load of stuff saying they don't and a few pilots saying they do, I personally have never tried it so I couldn't say for sure. Damn shame they didnt warp scram him though.

You read it wrong. It said "SOMEONE ELSE'S NAME, You have commited bla bla bla". The message will always say "you", even though wha tyou should read is the name on the message and nothing else. If it is not your name, someone else committed a suspect/crime action. |

Sorry to not get back. For some reason my posts last night would not show.
Thanks for the replies folks. I got impatient that's all. I still am not sure about the messages though. It all came at me so fast I could not take it in so maybe I miss read something not directed at me. I have been reading allot on how to avoid gate camps and plan on outfitting my new ship accordingly and practicing in hisec. I had no idea I could be destroyed that quick! |

Just to add, I assume that you jumped into Ostingele from Stacmon. That is a very dangerous stargate and is often heavily camped.
The message about being a criminal that you saw were warnings to the people who began shooting you. |

Locked a thread redundant with this one, so I will post my response and thoughts on it here.
DrBojangles RonPaul wrote:Just wrote a big reply and it did not post.
The forums will eat your posts now and then. To get around it, you can depend on your clipboard (copy-paste), the "draft" feature it has (but has dubious functionality), notepad, or even a browser extension (that also has some nice other tidbits).
It's frustrating and everyone wishes the forums would stop eating posts, but for now we're stuck with these forums and have to deal with them.
Anyway, on to your question.
DrBojangles RonPaul wrote:Ok don't have time to retype all that again. In a nutshell thanks for the replies. My feeling is that I had the equipage but the wrong tactics. What is the better procedure for a guy like me with minimal equipage and experience but who wishes to find some more lucrative ore?
You will do better in mining if you look around for better ore, or if you go to low security / null security space. Lowsec/nullsec are more risky since you may get hunted down by players, but they can be quite rewarding. Otherwise, you will have to either jump around by yourself and examine systems' profitability, or use an external tool like DOTLAN Maps to browse for nearby systems. You can make it display how many belts are in a system, and if you click on the system it even shows you the types of belts that may be there.
DrBojangles RonPaul wrote:Like when approaching a strargate one should....? etc. Um... Right click on the gate and jump into the next system? That's how stargates work. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.

Oh c'mon, you know perfectly well what is he asking about :)
When approaching stargate you should already know what to expect to find on the other side.
Check in-game map statistics for number of ships and pods exploded within last hour and number of jumps and number pilots in space. If a lot of explosions happened it might indicate gate camp but not always.
You should also check killboards for system you gonna jump to and see what exploded and who was responsible. Repeated killmails with same group as offenders is strong indication of gate camp.
And now you have to think what gate you are going to jump through. If it is hisec/lowsec gate and it is the only gate of that kind for your destination system it is very likely camp sits right there.
You can never be sure what is on the other side unless you have somebody there to get d-scan or visual on gate. That somebody might be your corpie or friend or alt. And friends in Eve are luxury so if you are flying something shiny be careful who you trust. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |
