lol, yeah I did the same.. umm heres to another 30 days for Gal BS 5.
Umm, mate if you have flown a Dominix. Just think of a carrier as a very large version of it built by the Minmatar.

Yep. MWD, autocannons, and plates. Dont bother bringing drones, they'll just weigh you down.

This sorta post makes my skin crawl ...
He's got a carrier, so I'm assuming he has the skills for that carrier, so therefore he's been playing a while (assumption - he may have bought the account/char ... bad man), yet he has no idea's on what he wants to do with this rather lovely bit of hardware ?!?
It's like if I had trained for my Cerb, bought it then complained it had no turret slots
Sorry Traderunner - I have no idea about the carriers other than they are big and expensive and will get shot at a lot. That wont help you fit it, but you'll have a better idea what you've got yourself into

I've always wondered why people reply this way to capship setup threads. "If you got a carrier and you don't know how to set it up, you should quit Eve" etc etc.
The guy came here to learn. If you don't know better, what's the point of making him feel stupid?

I guess I deserved the flame, but I just dont understand how/why someone would want/own a capital class ship, with all the dedication and cost required, without having an idea of what to do with it ?
Sorry if this offends, but just curious.
(And in case anyone wonders, no - I dont know how to fit one, or what to do with it) |

I dont fly one, and if i did i would almost certinly change its setup every time i took it anywhere.
Its just a big support ship with trans to help freindlys instead of nos, but the comment to fly it like a big domi is pretty much right on - Big tank and drones/fighters, with various mods in highs like gang mods and transfers. Probably wouldnt bother with capital weapons, your gang is there for that.
SO... Highs: large shield transfer large armor transfer 3x gang warefare mods (shield resistance, armor resistance, propulsion jamming range. mods you may use for a mixed gang)
Mid: Capital shield booster lots of hardners...
low: pdus, dmg control

Then again if he truly wants to learn he should experiment on his own, make a prototype setup, post it and ask for opinions. That way people can point out flaws in his design and reason why an alternative setup would be better. This would not only improve his setup but he'd also gain a better understanding behind setting up ships. Else he'd be stuck asking people for setups every single time he bought a new ship. Basically the 'give a man a fish' vs 'teach a man to fish' principle.
Besides it's a little rude to just go 'gimme setup for ship x thnx'

Mid: Capital shield booster lots of hardners...
low: pdus, dmg control
2 things with that set-up:
1 - to fit more than one gang warfare mod and use it you need to fit command processors in the mid slots (the mothership gets +1 gang warfare mod per lvl of carrier skill though).
2 - as for the comment on guns....dont worry about guns because you can not fit them...5 high slots and all are utility slots only. A drone control mod (one the advanced drone interfacing skill is released) would be a good thing to look at fitting.
other possible things to look at fitting:
Drone mods (damage or tracking mods, the range one is not needed)
Sensor boosters if you think you might have to target something hostile on you own. These things lock slow. With 3 sensor boosters it still takes 10 seconds to lock a frigate sized target (yes I have tried this one).
Tank is up for debate...if you never leave the safety of a pos (or never stop constantly warping between safe spots) then what do you need to tank? On the other hand, I like to play it safe so yes i do tank mine. 3 hardeners and a armor rep as i dont have tactical shield manipulation to lvl 5 yet so i can not shield tank.
beyond that, experiment and find what you like and can fit. I would say atleast 1 gang warfare mod in the highs, maybe a large smart bomb (in the cases where a interceptor or other frigate warp scrambles you or something like that and is dumb enough to do it inside smart bomb range), and some capital transfer arrays.

ah, i see many flaws in your carrier setup, firstly its Minmatar carrier.
So here is a setup.
Sell it, Buy all stuff nedet to learn how to drive proper carrier.
All gallentte skillbooks up the Battleship skil tree, train BS to lvl 5. Then buy a Galentte garrier skill book, and train it to atleast 4.
Then setup it with dual capital armor reppers, some 28% adaptive corpum nanaos backked up by atleast lvl 4 passive armor skills. Add some officer caprecharger in medslots. Maybe 1 will fit in lowslot too, if you use only 5 for tankking.
Also add sensorbooster and Backuparray(medslot), incase you get in closecombat with jammers. It gives you comftable 100+ sesnor strenght and good 180km lockingrange.
In dronebay you can put 6 Einherji and 6 Templars. and mix of light, medium drones, incase you need to fend off any friggies.
Higslots you can use Heavy neutralizers, capital ships cap dont realy care abaut them, but 5 of em usualy instagib any cap under BS class. And kill BS cap in 2 cycles.

I was in a corp with him for a couple days.. no idea where he came from, apparently he has a dread (Naglfar) and was training for the carrier at the time... I asked him why he switched to minmatar, he told me he had no idea, and i was flying with him, him in a typhoon, and asked his setup (we were pvping, good to know what your m8s have) and he had like 2 1200mm arties, 2 megabeams, 2 cruiser launchers and 2 tractor beams.....
To be honest I think he is a bought character with bought isk.

I am wondering why there hasnt been some fix yet to the bonus or a change... there are a million things that have been given as a bonus that could have been good... they should stick though to be on par with the others... which is they get res and gal gets dmg bonus... so either reducing maybe recharge rate on sheilds cap? or as others said maybe make it % reduced in cap usage for the sheild/armor transfers...
the cycle time is worthless... unless cap remotes would have big cycle time as i think they should have then, the bonus would play a big part atm it does not at all

One thing that people don't realise about the nidhoggur is that it looks dead sexy.
I'm considering...
Hi: 1x of each capital shield/armor/capacitor transfer, 1x Gang mod, 1x Drone Control Unit (when released) Mid: Shield tank (not good at those) Low: 2x Drone Damage Mod, 2x PDU, 1x Damage Control Unit. ----

You can always spot the bought characters.
Where most of us run through the fit 60trillion times in the 6 months it takes to train for something like this (OMG OMG OMG Tactical sheild manipulationV ... oh ... my ... well that was crap)
A few draw up spreadsheets and hire a few hours at the nearest supercomputer to crunch dps and tanking figures in all possible scenarios (Looks at sarmaul, testy, gronsak et al)
Then you get the 'well a small shield booster worked fine on my kestrel no reason it shouldnt on my CNR'
TBH the problem isnt with bought characters, its with an EVE where noobs barely out of kestrels have so much isk they can buy them.

Well, ppl talk but don't look at fitting req of the stuff :)
Shut up please, look at the cpu beafore saying to place 2 shield transfer + 1 shield booster + 4 hardener :) look at the cpu of that ship!!
By the way, actually my fleet fitting is just based on 3 Capital armor repair running for 960 seconds (16 minutes) with "pretty low" resist.
1 Shield booster give you way less then 3 armor repair, keeping active 1 sb forever on the niddo is not a joke :) while placing some hardeners too i mean :)
I will not tell my fitting, but for now nothing except dreads were able to warn me :) even 10bs + 5 cruiser + 5 frig just pop... (made tons of time in test server)
I sustained 1 dread + 5bs too, unlucky 3 dread = death, 15.000dmg each citadel torp :)

In case it helps - I'm a carrier noob too and will sit in mine in less than a month, but this is what I'll use:
high: 3 x Drone Control Unit (4 when I have the skill) 1 x Prototype Cloaking Device (or Improved) 1 x dunno until I have skills for 4 x DCU ;-)
medium: 6 x Cap Recharger II
low: 2 x Capital Armor Repairer I 1 x Damage Control II 2 x best Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I can afford (e.g. Corpum A-Type will do)
It seems to me that there's no way to fit a really good armor tank anyway, so you can only choose between 3 active hardeners and 1 DC + EANMs and the latter seems better to me (112500 hull HP with 60% resists is decent, even though I hope I won't need it).

Edited by: Charlize Chips on 01/12/2006 15:34:39 High: 3x Drone Control Unit 1x Prototype cloak 1x Large Remote armour rep
Mids: 1x 20km scrambler 5x Cap recharger (II if you've got more money than brains, otherwise good named ones)
Lows: 1x Capital armour rep 3x Hardener 1x Adaptive Nano II
Gives 150k armour with over 70% resists.

Edited by: Jacob Majestic on 01/12/2006 17:24:06 Minmatar carrier is difficult to tank because of the slot layout. However, 5 slots is enough for an armor tank, whereas 6 slots really isn't enough for a shield tank.
Do you already have +armor hp implants in your head? If so, go for 1x CAR, resist tank, fit the cap to run your tank, and then stack your highs with whatever you want (DCUs and cap transfer primarily). Plan on putting in a +15% armor hp rig some time in the future.
If you don't have +armor hp implants, go for 2x CAR. It's more cap hungry, meaning that you'll be able to do less with your high slots, but it's more survivable. Plan on putting in a +15% repair amount rig and getting a set of Slave implants.
P.S. Don't knock the Minmatar carrier, it's got the best bonuses for frontline support. Capital cap transfer arrays are freakin' unbelievable.

Pretty glad everyone say niddo can't armor tank well :)
I repair for 16 sustainable minutes 1870 Dps rounded up counting the sum of the 4 resistance / 4.
Meanwhile beign able to use actively a capital remote armor repper time to time, not continuously obviously.
Actually your fittings are all nice but can be breaked by a lone fleet of vampire user in zero time, and you have so looooow defence :)
Just few points if you want to survive:
1) Don't count on your cap regen, few nosferatu/destabilizer kill you. 2) Think about how to survive long enought for remove the scrambler or wait for help if things get bad. 3) Thanatos have a tank of about 100dps better then nidhoggur with full t2 fitting. 4) Chimera even with 1 SB and 2 amplifier can sustain for long time (more then 10 minutes) only a tank of 150dps less then the niddhogur. 5) The only fleet that realy overkill you is 3 Dread while completely webbed, a fleet of just 10bs is not able to kill you, i made plenty of test on this :) 6) Damn guys, in italy we would say you come from Genova :) there all people don't want to spend money, is the same here!! **** you fly a ship that cost 1.1 billion and you pretend to use eutectic cap rechargers????? damn, MINIMUM is tech2, faction is sure better.

Right click on ship goto the "trash" option
click "Trash" and click "YES" on the new box that appears
Then goto your Charecter sheet. and see how long it will take to train for the Thantos. or Achron

It's not true dude, i had very good result with the Nidho! the problem is just the bonus that sux... or at least i have not yet found a real use of it :) i would realy love the 5% lvl resist bonus... more then the damage..
By the way, the Niddho can tank in a sustainable way more then chimera and just a few less then thanatos... now i'm going to do the math on archon, that btw is so horrible that i would NEVER fly it.
