Can it be done? If so, has anyone ever done it before - does it make sense?

Of course!
I always use a Sigil with 2 tractor beams to loot my missions. Works like a charm.

Edited by: Cassius Brutus on 19/04/2006 15:31:24 Edited by: Cassius Brutus on 19/04/2006 15:30:36 I use the badger for hauling my mined ore back to station - since they're relatively slow I thought a tractor beam might help speed things up. What do you think?
I warp onto my first can (I have BM's for all of them) but then I have to fly to each one after that. Would a MWD just be faster / more useful than a tractor beam? I don't know much about beams...what's their range? If it's large enough maybe I could just sit in one place and bring everything towards me...but then I'd have to replace the cans and rebookmark them each time. Argh.
Finally, if you anchor a secure can, can you still pull it with a beam?
Thanks.

Works great. My badger II equips 2 of them to speed loot pickup.

You guys all use your setups to steal though right? Does anyone use it in mining (pulling your own cans to your hauler) or do you just set bm's to each can?

Pretty sure you can only use a tractor beam on your own cans (but you could get someone else to do a can swap for you (but that would probably leave the hauler flagged too....)

Well I thought that because people were calling their setups looting machines and such. I can see how a tractor beam could easily let you sit in a belt and let you steal cargo. When you're done you simply warp to safety.

Except for the fact that you can't tractor cans that aren't from you're corp, or gang.

Looting in this context refers to collecting the salvage of destroyed enemy ships in missions. Tractor beams are very useful for this.
Most industrials can't fit a MWD, so that's not an option. Even with an afterburner, tractor beams speed up loot collection by at least a factor of two.
