If I were to make an Alt that was strictly going to be used to research BPO's and produce things for the market, what skills would you suggest?
Obviously Science, Research, Lab Operation, Prod Efficiency, Mass Production to start with.

The only skills you missed were Metallurgy and Industry. If you wanted to mine/refine your own stuff too, there's a whole bunch more skills... Anything to pilot a Covetor, plus Refining, Refinery Efficiency, and all of the *Ore name here* Processing skills.

Yea I've already got a char with high mining/refining skills. This one will focus exclusively on research BPO's, research agents and production.

You will need the appropriate research skill and prereqs to V.
Example:
Racial Starship Engineering has Science V and Mechanic V as prereqs
Electromagnetic Physics requires Science V and Electronics V

Right I understand that also. I guess I wasn't clear in my original post.
Should I be training in skills outside the direct skills needed for research and production. Such as Learning skills. Are there any skills that don't directly affect science and production that might need to be researched also.

For the sciences you do need strong intel+memory attribs. And research project management has charisma as a secondary. But charisma implants are very cheap and even with an Achura starting out at charisma 3, its possible to take it to 9 in over one day, this will save you 2 days with research project management 3 to 4.
You will also have to get your standings up somehow, either using your main to assist you doing the missions for that faction corp, or train up industrial to do courier missions.
A little work on perception/willpower here will shorten your time from frigate 3 to 4 by 4 to 5 days, depending on your starting attribs.
