Wow,
I almost got my butt kicked badly trying this for the first time in a Prophecy with T2 guns and 80% Armor Resists to Kinetic and Thermal (Gurista Rats).
If I wasnt jammed most of the time, I think it could have been fun. Well at least my armor skills saved me from losing my ship...just barely...
I finally finished the damn thing...had to fit some Projectiles I had available and snipe the bastards with FOF (in my single launcher)...I even tried fitting ECCM and Radar Backup (to prevent jamming) but this gimped my tank and didnt really help much either...
The difficulty of this mission was impressive. Nothing like watching a gazzilion missiles spamming you while your Fat Chicken (Prophecy) gets bounced around helplessly jammed to hell.
Guess I could have taken an Apoc for a ride but they seem like overkill considering I am fighting Frigs and Cruisers...I am not really experienced with missions...anyone have comments for this one?

Edited by: Kaival on 20/04/2006 05:25:44 It is a surprisingly tough one given that as far as I know, though webbers are not uncommon in L3s, warp jammers are pretty much unheard of. Naturally, if you fly into this one and set about tanking the ships and concentrating on the towers, expecting to warp out when things get rough, you are in for a very unpleasant surprise.
Fortunately, there is/was only one warp jammer and I took him out pretty quickly once I realized what was happening, and I got away with only a little structure damage.
It is a mission, though, that puts a little more wakefulness into the otherwise sleepy L3 jamboree.

You will get target jammed nearly everytime in a mission against Guristas. You will have to live with it. Take out the Interceptors/Jamming Ships (Despoilers, Annihilators, Killers to name a few) first. If there are Sentry Guns, they are evil. They do all kinds of Damage an it's hard tanking more than a couple of them. Missile Batteries do about 3 times the damage than normal missiles. (Anyone know the 4 Amarr Heavy Missile Batteries in Guristas Extravaganza ? 450 EM Damage on Shield without hardeners per battery, yeah baby ;) )
A BS maybe overkill for this mission, but nothing wrong in using one. It makes the mission easier and often faster.

Hehe, funny to see this now, as I just finished this mission 8 hours ago
And I have to admit that this is by far the hardest lvl 3 mission I've come across so far. I used my Ferox, with passive shielding (shield : 7350) and 5 heavies.
I got my ass kicked badly the first time I warped in, and with 10% shield and no armor I finally warped out Had to spend 2.000.000 ISK to fix my ship before I went back. (not helping my ISK account this mission )
Had to warp in and out a couple of times for the first gate.
The second gate was even harder, but after a couple of warps I managed to take out ship by ship.
It was fun but very hard. Be warned

Haha remember this. Good to see this mission wasn't changed in the last months.
Is the gate in the first stage still so far away? Warpouts were a pain in the passiv-tanked ferox without ab because of the looooong traveltime to the gate to stage 2.

Edited by: Tousaka Langley on 20/04/2006 07:57:17 Heh, spy stash isn't so hard.
Wait till you fight some illegal slavers. (hint - take out destroyers first.)
In the months of mission running in Ferox, including Extravaganza and spy stash where I would accidently aggro whole room, it forced me to warp out because I tried killing sentries first.
I should note, however, that my raw tanking capability is such that I kill the outpost in Retribituion first just to save me the effort of aggroing every group individually and then killing them all at my liesure. So my tank is pretty good.

Just a suggestion for you and anyone else who doesn't know this: keep a few armor and hull repairers with you (just drop them off at the nearest station before your mission if it's in a different location than your base of operations). Then when you have to warp out, drop into the station, equip these quickly, slide out to do your own repairs, saving millions, then go back to your combat load and head back in to the mission.

I know the feeling :) did this a few times in my Ferox... I still cant manage 1st stage without 1 warpout. The sentrys dont even hit me, but what a barrage of missiles from the ships!! Its a real adrenaline kick.
2nd stage is no probs...

I use a Muninn HAC for this mission (against Angels). It is really not a problem - basically you just need to take out the jamming/scrambling frigs quickly and then keep >40km to the enemy - then they rarely hit you with anything other than heavy missiles - and there is not enough of them to break most tanks.
I use 5x720mm howies and 2xLimos Assault launchers in high. The assault launchers + 5 light drones usually makes quick work of any frig that gets near.

Edited by: Topodo on 20/04/2006 14:27:08 In pocket 1, I kill the two frigates at the entrance, then agro one of the mass of 15 ships that come after me. I move away from them to delay their arrival, and it makes that encounter much easier. 15 orbitters is far too overwhelming.
In pocket 2, I tried taking out a couple towers, then the frigates, then light cruiser, then the heavy cruisers, but had to warp out because my tank broke. Next time, I may go after the cruisers first, then the frigates and light cruiser, and see if that works.
Sometimes, beating these missions without warping demands that you take things out in a certain order.

Hmmm I donŠt know the Guristas ond and for sure IŠm glad about it.
The Angel one is very hard too but you donŠt get jammed every few seconds.
I done the Angel One with my Autocannon Cyclone without a single warp-out. ;) But you need a decent setup and skillpoints to do that.

Losing a Prophecy to Spy Stash is what made me say 'scr_w it' and get a BS to run level 3s. (Scramble this, sucka...)

I did the angel version of this mission in a vexor, sounds like the gurista version is even harder. As it is the angel version is in my top 3 hard level 3 missions along with portal to war 2 of 5 and rogue slave trader 2 of 2.

Edited by: Iudex on 20/04/2006 17:59:23 Hmm after i read this post - don't know now if to do it or not in my newly acquired ferox. Got this missions few hours ago, thought i wait till my shield upgrade is 4 (which will be in 1 hour) so i can fit 5 tech II large extenders (would give a shield hp of almost 16k with recharge rate of ~450), i have also 5 arbalests heavys and an expensive bcu - but don't know if i have a chance there - quite new to mission running, did a couple of lvl 3s now, seemed easy but they didn have so much lp so i guess this isn't a good indication that im fit for it .. don't have any turrets, no drones and this char is not even a month, really not sure now if i should risk a 100 million ... how is it about warp-jam, is there really only 1 ship doing that ? Does someone maybe remember it's name ?

Edited by: The Knight on 20/04/2006 18:11:48 There is a small trick to running this mission, actually 2 tricks.
The first is...don't shoot at the missile sentries. They can't hit you very well anyway from the range they are firing and if you do shoot them, you will aggro the entire spawn.
The second thing is, the gate is not locked. So...if you were to get to the gate without ever killing all the NPC's in this level, you can simply jump through the gate to the second level. _

Just tried it the first time with my 21 days old char in a ferox (with some expensive launchers/bcu though). Went there solo with 5 large shield extenders (4 tech II, 1 F-S9 caus no more power) with 15390 shield / 437 recharge passive tank due 3 shield power relays (no hardeners or resistance amplifiers). Like the guy above said, didnt attack the batteries, so first only 2 frigs on me. Then i attacked a cruiser and everything except 3 cruisers and few frigs at gate went on me. When they got my shields at 50% some cruisers were already dead, my passive shieldtank then operated well in range of 40-50%. Second stage almost same, killed 1 missile battery and 2 cruisers before shields got under 50 % and then stayed over 45 % always till finished the rest. As the passive tank operates best at like 33 % there was even space for more damage, so was quite save.
