Looking for some advice on whether to go with the Stratios or the Ishtar for low sec combat exploration, specifically Sansha space. Firstly, can the Stratios effectively deal with Sansha 5/10 and 6/10 and if so what sort of fit should I be looking at? I don't have much experience with the Ishtar and was hoping some of you grizzled exploration veterans could suggest whether the Ishtar would be preferable over the Stratios. I do like the idea of covert ops cloak on the Stratios. Any help, feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated :) |

Stratios can't break Skomener Effotber so Ishtar is your only real option if you're solo and want the 6/10 as an option. |

Thanks for your reply. So looks like Ishtar is the way to go then. Any more advice or ideas would be welcome. Any suggested fits that work well in low sec Sansha DED sites for the Ishtar? |

You'd be wasting your time trying to armour fit an Ishtar, you wont get the DPS. Try something like this;
[Ishtar, Lo-sec combat sites]
Damage Control II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II
10MN Afterburner II Pithi A-Type Small Shield Booster Thermic Dissipation Field II EM Ward Field II Shield Boost Amplifier II
Improved Cloaking Device II Core Probe Launcher II, Sisters Core Scanner Probe [Empty High slot] [Empty High slot]
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II
Garde II x5 Salvage Drone I x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Warrior II x5 Hammerhead II x5 Warden II x5
800DPS with Gardes. |

You could also use a Stratios, when fit as follows it would put out 772DPS with Gardes & Gleam.
[Stratios, Lo-sec combat sites]
Damage Control II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II
Pithi A-Type Small Shield Booster Large Shield Extender II EM Ward Field II Thermic Dissipation Field II 10MN Afterburner II
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Core Probe Launcher II, Sisters Core Scanner Probe Quad Light Beam Laser II, Gleam M Quad Light Beam Laser II, Gleam M Quad Light Beam Laser II, Gleam M
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer II Medium Core Defense Operational Solidifier II
Garde II x4 Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Salvage Drone I x5 Ogre II x4 Warden II x4 |

Thanks for the Stratios option too Dan....makes decisions even harder! I currently use a Stratios for High Sec stuff. I had a feeling the Ishtar might have been the way to go but will give both these a look. |

No worries, my fits reveal that I am no expert in these matters at all, but I use what works for me. good thing about the Stratios and Ishtar is that you can use whatever turrets you are skilled for, or none at all if you would rather have the utility, due to the drones having such high dps by themselves.

You will be way more likely to get into a bit of pvp in lowsec than high.
Last I checked, Ishtar is still cheaper than a Stratios. |

Use curators vs em weak enemies. They do about 1-3% more damage vs high-tier battleships and elite ship, are slightly worse vs lower tier stuff, but have beautiful long range. Thanks for the advice. I shall test both drone types I think. And yes, as the Ishtar is cheaper it's another good reason to consider it for low-sec stuff. To be honest, the drone damage alone, being better than the Stratios, makes me tempted to give it a shot. Any more fitting suggestions or advice would be great |

Sorry, not true. Stratios can kill him fine. This fact alone doesn't make it a good choice for this plex though. Grinding battleship hordes in the rooms is a chore, unless one is really into chasing after every single rat to apply full damage. #goteamishtar |

I'm just wondering...shouldn't I be fitting a MWD to avoid camps? I've used MWD+Cloak in null but not sure how much it is needed in low-sec. Sorry for the stupid question |

Yes you'll have to dodge camps (occasionally pretty big ones) in low-sec. So that's another thing to consider, as Stratios will make it considerably easier (especially if you fit for agility while travelling). Having an alt scout would help immensely if you chose the Ishtar.
Consider that you'll actually be spending a lot more time travelling and looking for sites/plexes than running them. In my eyes it goes something like this:
- Ishtar is somewhat cheaper (but the difference is not huge) but also a bit more prone to being caught. - Ishtar >> Stratios for running plexes. - Stratios >> Ishtar for pretty much everything else you'll be doing as part of your exploration (assuming you are not gonna be PvPing ;))
In the end I'd personally give a nod to the Stratios and simply skip any 6/10s if the conditions were not ideal (not like it's guaranteed to drop something good anyway, you'll have plenty of 'empty' runs too). |

Thanks for everyone's advice. I think, after a bit of shield training, I'll give the stratios a go with the fit. As I have the ship already might as well try it out :) |

Stratios for anything under 6/10.
Take a mobile depo with you and fit for whats needed.
Go in via WH/ travel fit. Change to PvE/ scanning fit. Change to all out PvE for 6/10's

Thanks for that Chrome. This is what I will be doing I think. Managed to grab a mobile depot for this very purpose. Do you have any sugegsted fits to add to the mix? |

My comment on the Stratios combat fit posted earlier is what Batelle has already suggested: Curators. I wouldn't use that fit as posted, although I would try to fit a shield rather than armor tank too (lows are pretty much reserved for damage mods).
The gist of it is: make it as good a platform for sniping with Curators as you can. That means three things:
1) DPS: 3 DDAs at least, pereferably 4.
2) mobillity: I would consider MWD a must (Gist C-type is quite good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg these days).
3) ranged damage projection: meaning drone link augmentors rather than lasers in highs, and probably a Signal Amplifier in low. One turret of some sort will be useful for pulling aggro, but they are not very good as far as damage dealing (especially vs Sanshas with their TD, use light drones to kill any frigs that get too close).
Finally, there's the question of finding out if you can sacrifice any tank to fit an omni or two (Fed Navy preferable); since you'll be taking EM/Thermal damage your shields are very week too, this may be tricky and maybe not worth it in the end.
You should be aming to engage at ~80km range, and keep relocating and blapping them from distance until incoming damage is manageable; then switch to Gardes or light drones as situatioin dictates. |
