I'll keep it short and sweet: what are the various methods/modules that can be used to increase the powergrid (i.e., NOT CPU or capacitor values as there are plenty skills that do those)?
This character has Eng IV, and the ship has an MAPC fitted, yet can only drop in a med extender if some (vital) modules are removed. Perhaps this is the only way, but I would like to see if there are other ways that I have yet to discover. TIA.

you could train "shield upgrades". That'll reduce the pg need of extenders with 5% pr level.

small extenders are for frigates medium extenders are for cruisers large extenders are for battleships
You're trying to fit a cruiser module on your frigate.... offcourse it doesn't fit.

actually on the few occasions ive flown shield extendered frigs / cruisers the frigs have had med extenders and the cruisers large ones.... it's all down to fitting skills to shove them in though.

Where'd you get that idea? Medium extenders fit fine on frigs and large ones on cruisers. Same for boosters.

Well, Engineering to 5 would help, 5% more base grid.
As someone said above, Shield Upgrades to reduce de PG cost of the Extender.
But also, Advanced Weapon Upgrades to shave a bit of PG of your guns ... every little bit counts ...

Don't undock until you have engineering 5 and Electronics 5
Seriously though - make it a priority to train these up, they're only rank 1 skills so won't take forever but boy does it help.

Thanks all...ugh, Engineering V seems a bit long to train for a 25-day old character (nearly 25% of her lifetime!) d:

Based on some of the replies below, it seems you can. I'm just trying to figure out how to do so, although I do appreciate you earlier comments.

I just did a test fitting in Quick Fit. With Engineering/Electronics at 5, you can do 2x 125mm rail, 2x rocket launcher, a medium extender, two resistance amplifiers, and a warp scrambler. In lows, I just tossed in a MAPC (you kinda need it) and a magnetic field stabilizer. So yeah, you can do it. Just watch the grid in your mids (other than the extender, of course).

Yep, my Exequror does fine with 3 Large Extenders on it, and along with some shield enhancing low slot mods, it has a pretty good passive shield tank on it. Had a chat with Pottsey a while back, and it seems I'm not the only one passively shield tanking an Ex. Can handle Human Cattle missions with no problem in that.

Yeah .. theres no reason at all really to use the right sized shield extenders. They don't add enough shield to make them worth using. Oversized ones do loverly things tho. 3k shield on my stabber. Why not indeed

Hmm, just a note, if you're ever short of powergrid you might want to look at replacing one of those extenders with an invuln field (assuming you aren't using any hardeners already). When active it'll probably give you resistance almost equivalent to the shield booster, for a much lower powergrid cost (though you'll have to use cap).

Train shield upgrades to 4.
Try to get the shield upgrades implant, 5% further reduction in extender grid usage. I'm sure they go for cheap cause the EVE playerbase isn't dying to squeeze extenders on their ships generally..
Train engineering 5.. you will have to eventually, it's a must have, many many GOOD setups simply will not fit without engineering 5, its entirely vital to your EVE career to have skills like these maxed out.
Training weapon upgrades will also help, since it will reduce the grid of your weapons further freeing up powergrid on your ship. ------ FPDOMS MINER KILLBOARD |

Take out the 150 mm, replace them with 125mm. A friend of mine with Engineering 3 and electronics 3 can fit them using only a PDS (or a MAPC, don't remember 100%).
