Can someone explain the use and benefits of containers in space.
If I purchase a container which takes up 100 m3 it then gives 120 m3 of storage. I can move any item into this container when docked and everything works OK. ie. it takes up 120 m3 and then if move to ship it only takes up 100 m3 in the ship.
If I take one of these containers empty and put in my hold, undock from space station and then start mining. I can not move any of the rocks into this container. Then when I remove this container from my hold back in the space station, I am finding I could have carried more rocks without the container in the first place.
plz HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're supposed to drop the container in space, open it and move the rocks you mine into the container. Works better when you fill an industrial ship with containers (or a single larger container) as you then have the industrial's cargo capacity in the belt with you.
Also by using the secure versions and anchoring it, ore thieves will be unable to steal the ore you put into the container
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

I think you must lauch the container, and anchor it in space, before you can use it again. ---------------------- There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people. |

Edited by: Tassadar Beta on 17/09/2003 22:45:16 The patch stopped secure containers from being able to boost Indy cargo space. So you are unable to use them to increase the amount you can carry, to get to your ore take them outside the station anchor them and then transfer the ore to your indy.
So to summarise, you can only take advantage of secure containers when they are anchored in space, they are not supposed to be cargo expanders .

Another bijou but fundamental change they forgot to put in the patch notes?
I'm also not entirely convinced you can't still use them that way. I tried and failed to put some in a Med pod - but when I then disembarked it in the station I found some ore in it! So it may just be the display of contents that doesn't work right in the ship - need to do more testing!
Is there an official explanation anywhere of how secure containers in space and holds now work (or don't!) after this patch? Or for that matter what Anchoring does or doesn't do. Does it extend/cancel the 2 hour lifetime? Is it required for pods to be secure? (Notes say so, but mine asked for a password even though not anchored.)
