Hi all,
Hope this is the right forum for this. If not, Mods, feel free to move.
Right, I'm looking at buying a new keyboard and want to get one of these funky gaming keyboards. I've looked at the G15 from Logitech and the features look great. However, I'm a lefty and the various function keys are all on the left of the board which isn't great for me and my mouse.
Anyone have any ideas of a good gaming keyboard for leftys playing Eve?
Cheers all,
Stein.

I've been using the Saitek Gamers Keyboard for half a year now or so. Linkage
Its programmable pad is connected to keyboard by cable and can easily be moved to either the left or right hand side. It's only got nine buttons, but two separate shift buttons allows for 27 separate actions to be programmed. Ergonomically, the shiftbuttons could be placed a bit smarter (allowing for thumb operation for both of them for example), and having three "layers" of buttons takes some time getting used to.
It's got chunky and silent keys, and a nice "blingy" blue glow. The software is easy to use, and allows for quick changing between saved set-ups.
I'm happy with it. |

I use a nostromo n52 speedpad.
You could put this on the right and the mouse on the left?

Any keyboard whatsoever, and a freeware program that makes the numberpad work like function keys. There's hundreds of those. ________________________________________________

You use your mouse in your left hand? I am left handed also but luckily use my mouse in my right and it feels natural, with everything else I am pure left handed, but not computers :P

What? Left-handers play EVE! That's outrageous! Just kidding.I'm a southpaw too! I use the mouse with my left hand (omg, that just has sooooo many connotations!) and the keyboard with my right, however, I never thought to get a left-handed keyboard. Like the old saying goes, "When in Rome...", I ordered Lasagna and just confromed to the Keyboard layout. If you do find something, please post a review of it. I am truly interested in your search. However, like Darth Vader said to Luke, "It's too late for me, son." I don't think I could ever break out of the pattern I have set myself in. Darn you Right-Handed Enslavers! Yea, lefty here too, and left legged. But I suppose because of the way the mice are shaped (right handed biased) I have gotten used to righthanded 'mousing'. Ever try using a logitech or MS mouse in your left hand? It sucks :)

Hi,
After the comments here and some further research I have ordered the following;
Saitek PZ08AU Gamers Keyboard (comes with a seperate, customisable 9 button game pad)
and
Logitech MX-310 Mouse
Both look pretty much usable by both left and right handers with plenty of functions. They arrive on Monday so I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks for all the replies,
Stein.

Yeah, seriously. I'm a lefty but things that are desgined to be used with your right hand I've no problem with. I've got a Logitech MX1000 mouse anyway, would be a might troublesome to use that with my left hand. Same goes for things like Joysticks, and guitars.
S'not that hard to develop your right hand to do SOME things half decently.

Ya it is. I'm hopeless with a right-handed tin-opener or pair of scissors.
Some people are more strongly biased than others. Me, I can't do a damn thing with my right hand - except use a mouse ________________________________________________

Unfortunately no.
It is perhaps my only complaint about the Nostromo. I cannot recommend it to Lefties because they do not make a right-handed Nostromo (the Nostromo is used in your off-hand, so a Nostromo for a right handed person is a left-handed Nostromo).

The first time that I came across lefty-righty probs was with my Amstrad CPC464 and I got the Speedking joystick, Linkage It was designed to sit in your left hand while you controlled it with your right.

I'm a lefty as well - and I learned to mouse right-handed. If you take the time to do so, you will find that you are actually more effective than a right-handed user, as you can mouse with your off-hand and perform more precise tasks with your primary hand. For instance, in my old job I could write with one hand while using the computer with the other. - - - - - "Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance." - Sam Brown |
