Is the distance to lock on targets limited by the actual ship?
1. For instance, I should be able to target from a Raven, regardless of any skills, at 75k, correct?
2. If this is true, then does the "Long Range Targeting" increase the SHIP base (in this case 75k) by 5%? Meaning, if I have the LRT skill to level 1, I can lock at 78.75k?
3. Can't Raven pilots typically actually fire much farther than they can actually lock because of the inherent bonuses of the ship to velocity, making the targeting distance the weak link here?

Or any other modules that increase targetting range and scan size. Not to be confused with ECCM.

Edited by: DrakeStone on 21/04/2006 18:19:45 I'm curious why people would waste a slot for a sensor booster if getting LRT IV would get you out to 90k. I'm sure in PvP more distance would make a big difference, but in PvE at least, is 90'ish not enough to stay out of range of most rats?
Edit: Answered my question before I could get it out, Ernest. Thanks guys.

Correct. And a Raven with LRT 5 will target at 93.75km. They can indeed target further with signal amps or sensor boosters (the popular choice).
As for firing range, the effective range of a Raven in PvP is obviously much, much smaller due to travel time for missiles (and hence why the velocity bonus actually matters even at short ranges). And for regular PvE, your spawns aren't out far enough to warrant a sensor booster that often (beltrats will MWD at you if they're far out for some reason).

Its also the fact that locking frigates takes 25 seconds...

the other benefit of a sensor booster is that you lock faster as well. in pvp that can be vital. especially with EW used so heavily in pvp.

Battleships are slow ...
A sensor booster is one of my recommendations for anyone doing level 3 missions in a Raven for example. Simply because you can immediately move to the next gate while killing each group of NPCs without having to worry about range limitations. Otherwise you often have to worry about keeping them in range.
I do level 4 missions myself and I do not use them in level 4 missions

6x Cruise 2x sensor booster
For non deadspace mission or belt ratting warp in @100km bookmark then warp @100km on that, rats dont even target you untill you fire on them and by then theyll be dead. Does far more damage with missiles at this range than at close range so makes for quicker killing.
With t2 cruise nice anti support for fleet, send off a couple of volleys of precision, switch targets, they hang around theyre dead.
Doubt theres any other reason to fit one as it takes a mid and means weakening your tank. Ravens are generally better with torps at close range in an anti bs role.
