Edited by: Stue on 18/09/2003 03:42:35 Edited by: Stue on 18/09/2003 03:37:22 Today in my favorite looting system i noticed, something was wrong. Instead of targeting me and beating the hell outta my shields the NPC pirates didnt target me at all. I even had to "motivated" them manually by tickling them with my radio L.
At first i thot it might be the belt that was buggy. So i tried another: same. And another 4: same. And i came to the conclusion that it must be ME! So i tried to get as close to them as possible which wasnt as easy as it sounds. THEY ARE FLYING AWAY FROM ME!
I took two screenshots to prove it (and give you a close-up of the sexy Sansha's Ravager)
Arr get into my belly! Run, little rabbit, run... But some day your hull repairer will be mine!
Also i noticed that the respawn time is close to insanity. I was having a ("motivated") ravager around me for like 15 mins, shield booster active, but there was NO respawn. Seriously, something is really b0rked
Edit: I just approached a Juggernaught and killed him with my drones. Surprisingly enuff he didnt attack ME but appearently i lost one drone to him. So he attacks the drones but not me. Hmm interesting.
Edit2: This time i had a spawn of 4 pirates. I launched my drones and tickled one of them with my laser so my drones wud attack him. Now, the other 3 pirates started to log and attack me too. My drones however survived. None of them must have targeted them. This is quite surprising because before the patch drones got killed first.

Finally NPC pirates are as smart as PC Pirates (and other players):
"If you can't beat them... run the HELL away!"

It's Official.
The Zezman Maneuver is now no longer in the game. Leaving one npc pirate alive no longer prompts further spawning of npc pirates.
Thanks CCP, I really appreciate having another fun challenging part of earning money in a risky endeavor removed. We didn't really need all those pirate loot items after all.
I am now looking for another online game. Any suggestions? I will not tolerate any further nerfs.

Always funny when people complain when something gets fixed to how it was supposed to work.
All online games are Darwinian... players either evolve and adapt or leave. If you leave, please leave quietly.

I'm not a mega-MMORPG'er, but I thought chaining was in other games too, as a feature?

Never played anything but Eve, all I know is that I read a Dev somewhere say that he didn't know people could 'chain', but it at least wasn't supposed to be like that.
And if Mr. Zezman would've bothered to read more Forums, he'd known that chaining would be gone. No need to spam it all over the forums like it's something 'new'.

stop spamming this crap, zezman.
learn how to farm pirates properly.
you *can* still chain, I was doing it last night.
Also, it's not a nerf, it's a *fix*. the last guy is *supposed* to attack you. Not sit there for 2 hours watching you kill his mates.
Had you bothered to read the patch notes, you might have already left to write your own cool game, as it has been general knowledge for some time now. .

It's not gone? When I get some time, I'll try it out... Probably a while after the downtime.

farming still works, need shield hardeners and good shields. Warp to a belt, if you find a spawn with some pirates charge into them, kill all but one and leave the one alive. As long as he keeps you targeted and shoots ya, he will call in more pirates. (every 3-5mins a new respawn).
All you need are good shields. Choose Weapons that match your pirate's range.
So farming is still possible. -- The worst thing you can do when suggesting a solution to a problem is to provide alternatives, people end up arguing the alternatives instead of implementing the fix. |

Chainspawning still works.. I tried it out and successfully started my first chainspawn after the patch yesterday. Worked as expected.. the only thing that stopped me was two of my weapon turrets freezing in their active/inactive state (couldn't re-activate them).
Please, try to chain, and do not name a rather simple manifestation of spawning code something special. (:

The difference is, that zezman's method leaves one pirate sitting in a corner, watching you fight while constantly calling in his buddies.
The zezz method also has the disadvantage of giving you spawncount-1 pirates to shhot at. ie. a 5 pirate spawn, will only give you 4 pirates to kill. The method I use allows you to get 5 pirates per spawn.
the first couple of respawns take 3-5 minutes, but this decreases over time, to the point where it is near instantaneous. I've not yet farmed to this level (was too busy doing implant missions last night) but I will do this evening. .

This "scam" does still work. I was chaining some low bounty NPC's on a 0.3 last night getting a handle on the changes to the weapons and hardners and 5 Despoilers materialised.
My usual technique is to webify one of them and kill the rest. Keep the webified one out at 8-10k where he can do no harm and wait for the respawn. Well the respawn came so I killed the one I had webified and set about the rest picking a new pirate to webify in the process when I noticed one of them break away and just sit there not doing anything. He just sat there, I killed the other four and witnessed multiple respawns. Pretty soon I'm surrounded by a about a hundred cans... all the time this one Despoiler just sat there oblivious of what was happenning around him.

i usually farm sansha's in 0.2 systems. Most of them 3k+ use missiles. Just have a Smartbomb on autorepeat or time it manually, only about 30% of the missiles hit you :)
ok farming in a megathron in a 0.2 system is not really challenging but i only do it to get megacyte and cargo expanders :) -- The worst thing you can do when suggesting a solution to a problem is to provide alternatives, people end up arguing the alternatives instead of implementing the fix. |
