I've set eve's rez to my native rez, 1680x1050 I've tried checking the "widescreen" checkbox in the graphics options, it merely adds a black bar to the top/bottom.
The Problem: As I rotate the camera around my ship, everything on the left and right borders of my screen become stretched. I experimented in windowed mode, 1024x768, and it appears this fisheye effect isn't exclusive to widescreen monitors...a widescreen just makes it more pronounced and painfully obvious.
checking the 'widescreen' checkbox does not remove the fisheye effect.
Is there anyway to change the FoV? Remove the fisheye? Player made "patch"? maybe? Hopefully?

At this time no :(.
But really wide angle lenses exhibit a fisheyeish distortion anyway. Its... "realistic" ;) ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - 0.0 Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! Mail me |

At a AR of 1.6:1 your going to get that. You can effectively adjust your FoV via zooming in and out.

That widescreen tick box does seem to be more than a tad pointless, you just lose screen area

Another thing about the current FOV, it really washes out the scale of things. Try zooming in (right and left click at the same time) on a nice scene and notice how the perceived scale goes up. It takes a long time to realize just how big those battle ships are to frigates - you have to fly right up to the things to get the comparison.
If you have seen the Angilice Prime trailer from late alpha, you can see just how much of an impact the FOV can have.
Personally, I think the FOV should be tonned down a bit, or add in some nifty camera affect (configurable, of course) that will make it easier to zoom in and focus on targets.
The Angilice video was the first thing I ever saw about EVE, and I am still in awe of the feeling and immersion it gave. I want my every day game play to look the same way. _____________________________________________________________________ Thar be Pirates

Uhhmmm.... widescreen isn't supposed to correct something... it's for people who want to see their locked targets and modules against a black background...

how do you change yoru FOV in this game?
Back in the day in quake3 (hehe) we used to adjust settings to have the "eve fisheye" so we could see more of a wider area, but it made the game look distorted obviously. ANd I would rather NOT have this effect in Eve, as it simply looks bad.
so yea if you could tell how to adjust the FOV, it would be lovely thank you in advance!

Let me guess. From that res, you have a 21" widescreen LCD monitor too?

Running 2 screens, on 2560 x 1024, the wide-screen effect is actually great for seeing a shed-load of the combat area.
I'd actually prefer that the location of the Status and Modules could be moved. Otherwise it's a new video card to be able to run 3 screens.

More accurately, fisheye wide angle lenses exhibit fisheye distortion. You can get wide angle lenses that are rectilinear and do not exhibit fisheye distortion. It's been a while since I did any, but in 35 mm photography, 50 mm focal length (about the diagonal of the negative) is "normal". As seen here you can get lenses as short as 13mm (4 to 1 wide angle) that are rectilinear.
