Huge, open-ended question, I realize.
Someone give me a best-guess-average.
I just bought a Raven for level 4's - like most. I've always fit my ships with tractor beams for level 3 missions, [see my thread on the first page for my feelings on them :}] but apparently a lot of people use dedicated haulers for the level 4's.
Is a Raven's 665 storage copacity not going to get the job done, even if perhaps a lesser amount of Missiles are taken along?

A dedicated loot-hauler is simply a lot more faster than a raven w. tractor beams and indeed, some missions drop a lot of loot.
Sigil, 2 tractors, best AB, cap rech 2x, best named nanos 5x = there you go, cheap, fast (>700m/s) and 3,150m¦ w. lvl 1!

vastly depends on mission some take over or close to 1500m3 but not much over so it you use and exequror for looting with 4 tractors, an AB and a MWD (as I would reccomend you at least look at) then with gall cruiser 4 and 3 named expanders you can just about fit it all in a can in your hold. Apart from that you are looking at indies for it and they are slow and have 2 high slots.

I'm doing lower-level missions right now (raising my Gallente standings before they are too low ...), but when I did level 4 missions, I had between 500m¦ and 2500m¦ of loots per mission.
I looted with a Kestrel or a Cormorant back then, and it's those volumes of loot that made me search for an alternative ... Sigil with Nanofibers and an AB is probably the best, but all Industrials can do the same trick.

Edited by: 4 LOM on 24/04/2006 17:50:26 You really need a loot hawling ship, it does not practically make any sense to use you raven to loot. for 2 reasons, its slow as hell, and you dont have enough cargo space. Most missions drop over 1,000m^3 of loot.
What i do is bookmark every can feild complete the mission then go back in a sigil fitted with 5x nanofibers, 1x 10mn ab, 2x cap batteries, 2x tractorbeams. the sigil gets going over 800m/s and with a tech 2 ab and named nanno fibers i could prolly get it going over 1km/s (i have a 3% velocity, and 2x 5% boost to ab/mwd implants). But ya you cant really loot in your raven.
Also i find looting in level 4's to take longer then the actually mission on several ocasions thats ok really you get alot of minerals and some good mods, most of the time you get enough in mins and mods to be more then what you made on the entire mission.
I have seen alot of people state industrials other then a sigil, not sure why as the sigil is fast and has really low skill requirments plus it allows you to fit 5x nanofibers so she turns on a dime.

Sigil is the best available, however, if you already have Not-Amarr Frigate trained (which you must have), your own racial industrial can do the job well enough. I wouldn't have bothered training Amarr ships just to fly a Sigil; I did so years ago anyway, when I needed a bestower because Iteron V was sooooo far away ________________________________________________

Cap recharger? I have no problem with cap on my Iteron III loot hauler. I outfit mine exactly like yours, except that I use sensor boosters instead of cap rechargers, to lower the ship's sig res and lock the cans a second or so faster.
It's fun to outrun shuttles to the gate in my fast hauler. :)

Exequror with some cargo expanders and containers (ca. 1.2k cargo space) does the job very well for me as a loot hauler. Fits 4 tractor beams, and is about as fast without nanos/overdrives as an industrial with them. The only time I ran out of space was after doing Infiltrated Outposts (lots of drones dropping lots of minerals).
Another good idea, mentioned by someone else in another thread: fit a destroyer with 6 or 7 tractor beams + speed modules. Use it to drag all the cans to a single spot, bookmark, bring in your indy to collect. That's probably the fastest method of collecting the loot from a lot of cans dispersed in a fairly large area of space.

I use a sigil as well
2 beams, 1 named ab, 1 SENSOR BOOSTER 1 cap battery 5 nanofibers.
sensor booster helps target the cans quicker.
considered an exqueror, and when I have my armor rep cruiser alt (in an exqueror) it has a tractor beam so it can sometimes do some of the looting as it goes.
the reason I do NOT use an exqueror for it... is that the majority of the time there are not that many cans in a tight enough vicinity to utilize 2 more lasers, and clicking from all that would be even crazier than with the sigil.

i fill my hold with loot the rest i tractor in and make 1 jet can to dump it all in. when i have left say 2 rats in a spawn i target the next group so they can start traveling to within 20k of me so when im done with 1st wave im ready to start on 2nd
after its all over ive got 1 can to pick up (if im lucky)

The better named/t2, the better the result. With my skills this baby will not run out of cap (under normal circumstances), but you may want to fit some cap rechargers. The two booster really boosts the lockingtime of the cans and the cargo scanner is useful to check if this damn lonely can 80km ahead is worth approaching.

Yeah, but with the sigil, you can easaly hit almost 1000m/s with skills and fittings, and you can turn like a frig due to 5 nano's --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

I Must be the only person out there that use's a geddon with 5 tractor beams 4local hull nanofibers and 3cargo expanders and a 100mn ab as a loot collecter
it fast enough that you don't out run the cans when you are traveling away from them and has a big enough cargo space for 75% of the mission's(lvl4) and if it's not a quick dump into my main's hold. and it has the other 3 high slots to use a emergencey remote reps just incase you mess up with a mission or forget to change you hardeners

Yes you are. And will probably continue to be.

To the people saying level 4's can drop like 1000m^3 or even more... just wondering, is that including literally everything that drops, or is that being selective with what you pick up? If you leave cheap stuff like missiles/charges, un-named shield/armor modules, ecm bursts, energy transporters and the like would the cargohold of a battleship be enough, or is there really that much worthwhile loot?

I usually collect most of the worthwhile stuff. Although my criteria might be a little looser than yours because I count ECM Bursts as worthwhile because they give megacyte.

All loot is worthwhile. Spending a few minutes picking up the junk, gives me enough minerals to build a free battleship once a week. ________________________________________________
