Edited by: Cipher7 on 25/04/2006 18:39:38 There's already a game like that, it's calledAllegiance
It's free. Its open source. It's the perfect companion to Eve, and lots of Alleg players also play Eve.

Originally by: BlackRain Gameplay wise, JumpGate did this already. It had "first person" control and the way the ships moved and were controlled was nearly perfect. It was a so called "semi newtonian" model which meant there was a small amount of drag implemented in the mix. Combat was intense and it required skill at flying, good aim, awareness of your surroundings and a good knowledge of the combat mechanics.
But then I still wished they would implent some sort of more direct movement controll for frigats.
(and afaik in beta they tested some cursor key control in one of the last phases.) ******************** Those without a tribe can only keep their word.

Only change I could ever ask for would be to allow the player to directly controll his ship rather than click a direction. Don't want to take anything away from the game that is already present but giving people the option for a more hands on feel would be intresting.

I would love a more twich based approach to combat. I loved combats in privateer and other similar based space sims. It was cool and fun too. It can give a small edge for fast ship. However, this should be restricted to frigate and cruiser sized ships. It would add another dimension to using them i guess. Lag and server issues should be adressed but hey that give a good excuse to spend money on new yardware.... ---------
Sadly I just make ISK, I don't print it. :(

Flying like a pro makes no odd's because of the way turret tracking works in this game, unless you manually had to aim your weapons there would be no gain from doing this, therefore i must say.....
Not signed for the billionth time, its been discussed and its not happening, end of discussion.

Edited by: Ovanvarr on 25/04/2006 19:50:00 Edited by: Ovanvarr on 25/04/2006 19:49:31 Space dogfights would not be possible. Due to large velocities and large distances in space, anyone who tries to aim anything by hand would be doomed to never land a hit... the only way to aim would be to allow the computer do all the calculations (and aiming).

i personally love the idea of having certain deadspace pockets where the player can fly like a FPS. some pockets would have complexes in, other would merely be empty, or have egeneric scenery - and no concord. that said, there would be no warp scrambling/disrupting in that area to avoid excessive gankage of someone who uses the wrong keys. imagine it as the safer option to fight ur buddy than flying to lowsec =)
