I've been playing for a bit, but I am just now grasping the actual depth of this game. Wow! Anyway, I have a couple starter questions.
1. How can I tell if the buyer/seller of something I put on the market is another "real person" or is an NPC purchaser? Is the market totally driven by other players?
2. Why do "named items" sell for so much more than their "regular" counterparts? I don't have a specific example, but I have sold items that were the "named" variant of a cheap item for many times over what the normal item sold for. I looked at the attributes and I didn't see a huge difference, maybe a few % points higher in a particular attribute. Does that extra few % points make that big of a difference?

1. NPCs all have the same quantity selling, and when you buy, the quantity doesn't go down. It also shows an NPC corp in your transactions.
2. By %, it might be much more, but the margin of difference in ISK may be small. The buyer of a 1m ISK small gun might be fitting it on a 25m ship, so it doesn't matter that much.

another reason named items sell for big money is that they use less CPU and powergrid, which can make the difference between fitting that last high slot item or having to totally chnage your setup.

In answer to #2 The small % increese that a named item gives can be the differance between life and death in some situations. I will use the primary exsample of the a t1 missle launcer and an arblest missle launcher. The % increase rate of fire of this modual may look small but can mean the diffance of 1-2 vollys of missles a minute pluse it cost less cpu and to equip. I dont know if you have ever not been able to run a ship set-up you like becuase you where off by a decmil point of a % but its sometimes worth the money.

Aye, if you really wanna see how the diffence effects ya, try mining in a Destroyer
Miner 1s (I could fit 3)
EPS Gaussen 1s (4)
that is an extra 45m#/min, A lot when your trying to fill a can.

But as a new player, aren't I also part of an NPC corp? So wouldn't my transactions, both buying and selling, show up as coming from an NPC corp?
Thanks to everyone who replied to my second question. That makes a lot of sense that a few % points or less power consumed would make a difference. Now I won't be so surprised when I see the difference named items are selling for.

No, transactions show the salesman, not the corp they're in.

This is true I forgot about that featur in the wallet. It will show you who bought stuff off you. And if I recall it will tell you under the journal tab who bought off you aswell. It will just give you an name but you can then use that name with the people/places feature to find out anything you want to know about the person. Just do a search for the name.
