I was a long term player of Asherons Call (HG Server) and have dipped my toes in the murky waters of DAoC, Anarchy Online and WoW.
I loved AC back in the day but as a more mature gamer it's Eve that really pushes my buttons now

EVE - June 03 to present SWG - a few months, just after retail launch (really enjoyed crafting, didn't enjoy grinding) WoW - A few months hare and there (addictive, but I can't fathom why) CoH - Got bored quickly. Good character design though.
Death is the loss of hope, everything else is merely despair.

Edited by: Berak FalCheran on 26/04/2006 14:59:13 I've played:
Project Entropia - STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS MONEY SUCKER
Neocron - played for a month or so, was sort of enjoying it... until there was a server crash and everyone lost the last two weeks or so of progress. Which for me, was nearly the whole time I played
WoW - played for about 2 days with a friends account. Absolute abortion of a game. Rubbish.
Nothing can compare with the hard-knock life of EVE.

Emphasis on forever. I often think of quitting, but usually that's just when I'm bored with what I'm doing in-game. Which is easily fixed

SubSpace (1996-Today) - It's free! Go try it! http://www.subspacedownloads.com/ Ragnorok Online (for a month) - cute, but tedious Eve Online (about 1 year) - got a bit tired of it World of Warcraft (about 1 year) - fun and relaxing for a while, then just stupid Guild Wars (about 2 months) - a fun game, kinda pretty, but still dull City of Heroes (2 weeks) - LOVE the character generator, dull, repetitive, too slow, totally unplayable solo back to Eve (about 4 months now)

Anarchy Online - I enjoyed it at first and played for a while, but eventually realized how unbalanced it was (haven't played in years don't know how it is now) Played an engineer and at higher levels noone wants to group with one. I didn't start playing an MMO to have my robot buddy be my only game companion.
Asherons Call 2 - Was a fun game for a bit, finally got sick of the grind, and the power gamer lamers.
DAOC - Dunno... played for about 3 hours, wasn't impressed.
Lineage 2 - Good PVP, good graphics. Other than that it's just another Korean LEVEL GRINDER
EVE - "Oh haleleuya, thank you Jesus!" And similar exclamations.

Started with Asheron's Call in early '99, as a carebear on Solclaim. Was such a carebear back then and so afraid of PvP. Decided to move to Darktide (the pvp server) and got stucked to it and in love with PvP. Played there for about 3 years, Asheron's Call will be the only other game that will always have a place in my heart, next to Starcraft. Played Dark Ages of Camelot for about 1 year on US Merlin Midgard, with a short trip to Mordred (the pvp server) for about 1 month. Unfortunatly Daoc PvP servers never had much success. Anarchy Online in beta (HATE it) and later on tried again, I liked it a lot but for some reason it didn't stuck with me (maybe because I was still playing AC). Star Wars galaxies for a bit but wasn't impressed. Lineage 2 was "interesting" watching my elf female archer "boobs" but got bored pretty quckly. Same with Final Fantasy XI, nice graphics but too dull for me. Plus that I was starting to get quite annoyed but yet another EQ-alike game (although I never played EQ but watched some friends playing it). I didn't like Eve-Online in the beginning. Besides Daoc where I liked the big sieges and epic battles, no game was good enough for an AC vet. Anyway I decided to give Eve another try (was interested in the economic side of the game) and I realised that I really enjoyed that. My old '91-'95 pc economic games favourites (Detroit, Capitalism, Railroad Tycoon etc.) were coming to life in an online environment. Played World of Warcraft for several months (on and off). Always leveling a character to 60 or close to 60 and then stopping, loved the PvE, hated the laggy open world pvp (in the beginning) and then the "instancing" pvp. Not my kind of game. Matrix Online was an ok game but due to it's lack of population, I always felt alone. So I didn't try it more. _______________________________________________

Lots and lots of SWG. Pre-CU for a while (03), quit for a bit, then came back 05. played from around april until november or something. Before the dark times. before the NGE. something horrible happened. it was like thousands of voiced cried out in terror, then were suddenly silenced.
NOOOOOOOOOooOoOoooOOOooooOOOooO
right, sorry. I gotta do that every few weeks. Pre-NGE SWG is still in my heart I'm done now. I didn't mind the grinding. I liked it. I changed profession every week -------------------------------------

Used to play some WOW. Quit because there just is no point in the game, what with no real PVP, and stupid quests.
Also I tried out Matrix online. Without a doubt THE crappiest attempt of an MMO ever made. Bad graphics, a world that felt empty, and strange GUI. Also, felt kind of wrong grinding NPCs (who I believe were supposed to be the architechts guys) who were just standing in a field with their suits and everything. I mean, I can accept that a gnoll or a zombie would do that in WOW, but here it just seems ridiculous...
Oh, and I also started playing this game called Eve in august -03. Kind of like it. :)

My MMO's... Let's see...
Asheron's Call Everquest Saga of Ryzom Anarchy Online Face of Mankind Lineage II Horizons EVE Online
Some more I can't remember the names of, but they were pretty dull and boring... The only ones I would still play would be EVE Online(obviously), and Lineage II, since my account is still active until about August.

My first ever MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, got that one the day it came out, without a regret. It was teh first MMO to ever catch my interest, it was certainly the only game where i could be a Fish-man, wield (rather deadly) Laser Carbines, and control massive (building size) arachnids (these little puppies gave anyone with arachnaphobia nightmares for months) (also, for anyone who knows of it, i was a Mon Calamari Carbineer/Creature handler) I played that one for over 2 and a half years, really only recently quitting, just couldnt stand it anymore, as much as it pained me to leave my first online game. My second was probably Ragnorak, ive since shifted around between private server with a friend of mine, and settled into a full PvP-enabled one (and converted half the population to take on the Lord Knight class a beserk knight literally instills fear on the server nowadays) Third up is EvE, obviously im still playing, and for the third time in a row settled into the underdog class (Minmatar) and have turned gone against all the "suckage" calls and exceeded the expectations of the best races/classes (galaxies was carbineer and creature handler both, both udnerestimated, ragnorak nearly noone knew the power of a knight) other than that, not much more thats interesting, i hop onto Planetside sometimes given that they give you a free year. I'm never going to touch WoW again, one hour into my free trial in that and i was done 400x120@24000 bytes Max please. -Capsicum

First true MMORPG that I played and liked alot was Neocron. I got accepted to Neocron beta and EVE beta same time. Sadly I picked up wrong game in terms of "long livety".
I have tried multiple MMO's but those which I have played more seriously are (in time order):
Neocron Anarchy-Online EVE-Online World of Warcraft
.. currently I'm playing a new MMO (which I bought yesterday) named Auto Assault. Setup seems kinda funny and unique but judging from yesterdays play, I hope it will get better from those newbie levels.
Oh and I also reactived my AO account but only to find out that its kinda grindshow and campshow there. Not sure if I should continue playing but AO is very addictive place if your Alt-toholic and Pet-class freak like me .
EVE-Online on the otherhand is on/off game for me. Currently I'm AGAIN training SP's for both of my accounts but not actually playing game. I don't know what to do ingame. I recently played like month or two and tried 0.0 space PvP in "The Five" alliance. It was kinda fun but too much "Must log on" rather than "Could log on" feelings. I have been in EVE-Fanfest 2005 even thou I didn't play game back then .
Top5 MMORPG list by me:
1. Neocron (No doubt. The PvP game. semi-harsh penalty for death and you could get loot from killed players) 2. Anarchy-Online (So much to do, so little time to play. Complex but requires too much time invested) 3. WoW (Nice quest system and very nice PvP system if you play in PvP server. Too bad there is no punishment for death at all) 4. EVE-Online (Amount of player interaction with game enviroment and world is staggering but I still don't like death penalty) 5. Shattered Galaxies (RTS game as a MMO and free. Very nice!) _______________________________________________ My main account Unnerf amarr!! |

As well as Eve, I've tried Priston Tale and Ryzom, with varying experiences, mostly not-so-good. I've subscribed to City Of Villains and am awaiting the upcoming expansion, but not too sure whether I'll stay subscribed. It's fun to start but every character has to do the same missions, there's no RPing, no freedom, nothing to do except missions to start or PvP later, and there's no variety in what you can do. You have your archetype, you have your powers and you can't change them (well you can change around what you picked from main power sets up to three times I think, then it's set in stone), which makes it very repetitive. It'd be like hitting 30m SPs in Eve and being unable to train any more. What you have is all you can get. All characters of the same archetype, generally speaking, play almost exactly the same too as their main abilities are structured the same, meaning very little real variety.
Eve is one I've subscribed to an played the longest, but even now I barely log in. It has some of the best features of any MMO, but the game itself is just so boring. CCP add plenty of content, but 95% of it is aimed at the 0.0 top end/alliance type players and is of no interest to me. I haven't liked the direction Eve has taken since Exodus really, it's just become too much like work I suppose, as well as lots of things I've never thought much of that haven't been changed. I'm a fan of Guild Wars, and am looking forward to Factions, the second major part of the game out tomorrow. Will play that and have some fun I'm sure.
There may be another one or two but can't think off the top of my head...I'm thinking of trying out a couple of others but I've not heard much good stuff about many of them. Online games, but not persistent ones I've played include Neverwinter Nights, UT & UT2k4. -------------
