Don't, of course.
Alienware is a complete, utter ripoff--their name adds a thousand pounds to the price.
There are companies who will sell you the exact same computer without the logo for around half the price.
And buying a Pentium 4 in this day and age is pure stupidity.

if you're looking for good machines, I could reccommend Mesh. for graphical work (I'm a 3d modeller) Evesham Micros make some damn good machines - mine was nukeproof and did'nt age badly at all.
Don;t write off homebuilding, either - I was terrified of the idea of even changing a single component, but a load of reading up and asking a few embarrasing questions *before* you start and it's amazingly easy to do. My current system in an Athlon 3.5ghz, SLI Geforce6800's, and other stuff, and I estimate that on a machine costing about ú1,400 I saved ú600 over the asking price for the same from a manufacturer. Since then I've built a couple of machines for other people, and never had a problem at all.

I know in the US we have Monarch Computers, which build for cost (based on their prices, which are similar to the cheapest internet sites) plus 50-65 dollars build fee and shipping.
Not sure about the UK, but you can always build your own--it really isn't too hard at all, just a matter of plugging things in.

What he said. And I'd also vote for building it yourself if you have the time, its far cheaper and better because you can get exactly what you want. And its pretty satisfying knowing you built the thing yourself Just make sure to research everything thoroughly and you'll be fine.
Edit: http://www.overclockers.co.uk is a good UK company in my experience, and they do pre-built computers as well if you really don't want to build your own. --------------

I'm only going to disagree with the Intel remark, but we've already had that discussion...
Alienware was bought by Dell. Dell is Latin for "complete rip off" --- --- --- ---

I'd recommend an A64 dual core--fast and effective for all sorts of things.
Which dual core you choose of course depends on how much money you're willing to blow... ![Razz](/images/icon_razz.gif)

For the love of god dont... I woudl have suggested against it *BEFORE* they were bought out by dell...
And whatever you do, DO NOT buy pre-built liquid-cooling. Keeping a liquid system runnign is NOT something for those who cant build their own PC, and a bad liquid loop will perform worse than good air, with considerably more maintanance. ----------------

Alienware is like Versace, they sell you crap at stupidly high prices, that works the same as anything else. But if you've got money to throw away, then you can't get better pre built systems.
At least, that was the case before they were bought by dell...... now..... well, who knows.
Used my alienware laptop for years, thing was built like a brick, and when it did fail (due to*****ups on my part) Alienware tech support was everything I could of asked for it.
Alienware is fine if you've got the cash, if you wanna save money, then just don't bother.

Can you instert old super nintendo cartridges? Can you plug wires into obvious locations? Can you follow a simple installation program and its instructions? Can you use a screwdriver?
If you answered yes to all these questions save you're self a ton of money and build your own!

I thought Monarch does ship over-sea? I know they stopped for awhile but I thought it was just temporary. (Oh and BTW Monarch flashs to the most current BIOS and tests MB and CPU before they ship, if you buy the combo. A big plus in my view)
Edit: Ohhh and I thought the current rumor was that Dell had purchased Alienware?? Unless they want to keep Alienware the performance wing of Dell they are one in the same, arnt they?
