Say people how bad it can be if STARGATES (exept from region to region still trough stargates) will be replaced by hyperspace jumps ? In system we will still use warp drives to travel from 1 planet/station to other but between systems we just simple jump multieple systems (10-20) far. Lets say to do hyperspace jump you need to warp first to SUN planet before you can activate hyperspace jump in only region where you are and will outcome same by SUN planet.+ To activate hyperspace you will be need 1 minet calibration time and + flying time in hyperspace calculated by distance what you want to cross.Lets say 1 system is no time limit but by every next system is 5 second traveling penalty ( 10 systems will cost you 50 seconds in hyperspace just as example) .But if you want to make regional jump you still will be need use the stargates. So any ideas about? is that bad? or good?

Doesn't fit with backstory, not really needed either. --

well the things changes they always do. Look at our technology. its change always too. why then traveling techology dont? its time to something new. its ame as like we still ride a horse at the newly highway. butthis was was ment for sportcar. Humans always want to go faster and faster. So far i knwo all races in game is humans origenal so where is our will goes on? dont we want to go faster anymore? dont we want rich our destenation so fast if poseble?

how could you say this isnt needed?!!? I've sent so much time making 100's of jumps its not even funny. This is a unique and creative idea. I like it! I suppose it should come with a hyperspace jump module taht requires some fule but not so much that you can't some things with you. An hey if it spoils the games logistics.. i dont wanna hear it! LOL

i think HYPERSPACE module must be a part of buildet ship /pod. Because if internal region gates will be removed then you will be needet those in pods too. so if ccp make limited by MODULE then how you will travel in a POD after destruction of ship? No this must be defenetly integreted part of ship.

a system that eliminates the gate system all togather would infact make EVE far more tactical. no more could someone camp a handfull of gates at reginal chokes. forcing people to have patrols of space they own is also more "realistic".

In terms of plausable storyline -- it's improbable.
Look at the size of stargates. It hasn't been that long since the empires have re-built star gate technology. I seriously doubt we've developed the technology to cram something that size onto a ship.
Plus, empires of EVE don't have a real motivation. In order to make a technology leap *that* big, there would have to be some kind of push for us to rush the technology -- a problem with the stargates such as a major flaw. As it is empires are simply putting more resources towards weapons and ship technology because travel technology is fine enough as it is from their point of view.
Plus, in addition to gate travel and warping, we already have Cysosural fields. I mean, how many variants of faster-than-light travel are we planning to have? ___________________________________

Mostly it will be pirates who give the flak. They would be worried that they'd actualy have to work for an income rather than gate camping all day.

QFT! Priates ALWAYS have the upper hand in PvP. The attackers always have the choice for location of ambush, suprise, etc. Gates only make their life EASIER! It's why most games with FFA PvP fail. Griefing and DYING often always sucks!
Mainly I agree with the fact that we PAY money to be ENTERTAINED! Watching warp gates for 2.5 hours is BORING as hell and not entertaining. The travel system needs a huge enhancement.

Pirates will be fine !!! remebers that there will be still REGIONAL gates and they are also can camp at SOL planets because only from there you will be able to go in HYPERSPACE. But removing those gates inside regions and put more valuable souces in those region systems will force alinaces to protect all area. At this moment mostly players in alainces sitting in systems where stations already is and only use other system to travel trogh other region to look for some figth or help a frendlys with invasion. But its takes always so much time to get there. If you are lucky you will spend 30 minets of traveling ( even with bm's) to get there and get in figth. Most figths do not so long at all + if you will be podet first then it will be even shorter the fun. So you will spend actualy 30 minets to travel then enter the figth for 10 seonds ( or meaby max 5 minets) get shot and then spend other 30 minets to get back to station to fit new ship. BUT it can be better and we all know that.

it's supposed to take a long time to travel, otherwise there's no penalties for anything, and everything is too open, the only ships they want capable of opening up jumps are cap ships using cynosaural generators, it'll stay that way, it's an interesting idea, but not an EVE kind of idea.

you can still have long travel times and not make the world dependant on the stupid regional choke points which need to be totally eliminated.

QFT again, down with CHOKE points, or PROTECT the gates more. Camping gates doesn't show any skill, just shows 5:1 always wins...Sentry guns that constantly respawn, etc. I mean who the HELL would build an EXPENSIVE jump GATE and NOT protect it with good sentry weaponry! It goes against logic!

*cough cough*
Don't respond though, that thread is old.
Anyways. Imho ideas that can make or break the game, like this one, really need to be more or less well thought out.
"Zomfgz! Let's remove all in region gates, give all ships jumpdrives that don't need fuel, and no Cynosural fields, thus rendering one of the most interesting points of capships TOTALLY useless and don't let ships jump between regions for no apparrent reason, while making gatecamping rediculously easy because EVERYONE emerges and enters jump near the warp in points of the stars!"
Doesn't exactly cut it in my opinion. =/
(On another, partially related note:
Cyberus: Paragraphs are your friends. They make more people actually read your post without their brains starting to bleed.
Cyberus and Dreadnor: Writing random words in capital letters doesn't exactly make the posts more readable, either.)

QFT.
Systems like Jita need not have half as many people in. Most are just passing through. If the idea incorporated a similar system to Elite so you jumped to a system and then had a long travel time to get to the station, you could still keep the travel times. Allow players to be intercepted while travelling in warp similar to Elite so that station to station is no less dangerous than it is now, also AFK travel is still just as dangerous. Even if you had the same system as Elite so you could analyse the signature of the jump trace the leave and see where they went with the right equipment. Pirates could still follow and attack, Players still exit within a certain radius of a jump in point in the target system. Limit the number of systems each jump gives you, add fuel or something to jump to make it more economically balanced. No jumps within a certain distance of a station.
I agree with lowsec being dangerous. It should be more dangerous to stay there but being ganked trying to get in or out because someone just wants to sit at a gate all day is ludicrous. I have mined in lowsec all night and then got ganked as I left in my frigate. These gate campers are not interested in having to fly around for their prey when they know they can get you as you leave.
On a different note that would help. It would also remove the need for instas

Interesting concept, but it may fit better with existing game mechanics if altered slightly -- say a miniaturized jumpdrive that eats fuel, requires skills, etc. like its big brother, but with the following limitations:
- must jump to/from CONCORD cynosaural beacons, which are only found at selected systems.
- cyno beacons are VERY far from the star (300 AU+), so warping there is a time-consuming process.

But it still will not solve the problem with instajumps...... so if someone cant affort those jumpers or simple will be podet he will be still need to use those, but by removing those gates and travel trogh hyperspace will force ppl to delitethose instas ( exept couple of those like station or regional gates) but still it will be then just very silly number of bookmarks. in place of thousands of those you will be meaby have hundrets. now calculate how many bookmarks will be just desapere out game with the lag what it create.

Take a look at the second to fifth post on that page.
I'm pretty positive that it's in line with what's suggested here... just with more detail. ________ Capship Overhaul |
