Proposed Idea:
1. The ability to tow ships 2. Skill that increases the mass of a ship that you can tow 3. Skill that decreases the 'drag' to Max Velocity that towing would cause
- Allows miners and traders that much more 'expanded cargo'
- Towed ships are destroyable and lootable (can be secured with necessary component)
- Not able to tow a Mass that exceeds the Mass of the lead ship
- Allows a player to transfer one of their own ships to a different location without shutteling/jump cloning
- Slows ship speed while towing (TS's Mass*(LS's MV/2) / (LS's Mass*LS's MV) - the decimal answer gives the %decrease in MV, or 'drag'.
- Not able to tow a Mass that exceeds the Mass of the lead ship
Key= LS(Lead Ship), TS(Towed Ship), MV(Max Velocity), Mass(ship weight INCLUDING cargo)

Yep, I agree that this would be a neat thing to add to the game, though your suggestion needs serious tweaking imo. Basically it should just mimic a tugboat, but in space. They could have specialized engines that only this industrial tugboat class could mount that would allow them to tow amazing loads.
It's a huge risk to tow something in this fashion though, since if the towing ship is destroyed, the towed cargo would be completely unharmed.

Towed ships can be easily stolen by jumping inside in a pod - so they wuld need to have seriuos escort reday to pod someone and that balances all the advantages of this idea. The movement shuld be slow like hell but allow towing bigger ships - it's normal sigh in RL ports. Engine strenght shuld be taken into account and maybe some hull mods to increase it.

Yeah I guess I never thought of that, regular ships would not be able to tow, but a specific ship class, upgraded by skill of course. And then an unmaned 'cargo container' with wicked crazy cargo room could be made to be the towee. Yes it needs tweaking but I think that this might help the economy allowing for yet another Job type. As far as if the tugship was destroyed leaving the cargo behind that would be interesting having pirates go in and fight off the escort and the tugboat itself and then bring in their OWN tugboat to haul the cargo container off into thier possesion. Might make for some better battles too if the cargo is worth it Originally by: Ellaine TashMurkon Towed ships can be easily stolen by jumping inside in a pod - so they wuld need to have seriuos escort reday to pod someone and that balances all the advantages of this idea. By jumping inside a pod do you mean - like if a pirate were to try and steel the ship they would eject from THEIR ship and then fly their pod into the TOWED ship in an effort to steal it and pilot it? If so thats a pretty interesting hijacking scenario, it wouldnt work on manned ships...just towed ships because they would be unmanned.
- Not really an idea...but what would you think to allowing the towed ships turrets and missles to work. I say no, because its un manned...but then you can add a strict accuracy decrease but then still used the weapons as its 'hooked' up to the Towing ship?

Here is a scenario for you imagine your idea became standard for eve you get a single level 5 iterion full of zydrine towing another iterion 5 with a full cargo hold of zydrine moving at say 100km/s in 0.0 space [from a deep space mining op] Now one pirate group has a ship at a gate routinely cargo scanning any ship that passes.
He sends a message to his freiends camping 10 jumps away so one of them goes to the next system with a station and gets a shuttle and returns to the camp when the haulers arrive he flys next to the haule rwhile his friends deal with any escort and if they can the guy hauling the iterion 5. pops out of the shuttle and takes the iterion 5.
End result pirate loses a shuttle and gains an iterion 5 with lots of valuabel minerals other hauler dies as does the escort.
Note if the escort is too big to ahndle the pirates will know long before they arrive thanks to the covert ops scout.

Well people are largely correct that someone could just jump in if they were in their pod, however who said we were towing assembled ships? ;)
Maybe it's just easiest to make General Freight Containers towable items. Should make just about everyone happy, be the easiest to implement, and would actually be a logical step between a hauler and a freighter.

I thought ships have to be assembled in order to be in space.... don't shuttles auto-assemble when you jet them into space from Cargo Hold?

well thats what im talking about, making a general towing freighter...and as far as towing ships in particualar , they would be assembled to go along with my hijacking scenario
